Intellectual property rights clearance, often “the unsung hero of the film and television industry,” plays a pivotal role in the distribution and revenue generation of creative productions.

Sade Clarke, a third-year law student at the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law, made substantial contributions to a recent report that highlighted the importance of rights clearance. The report titled "Rights Clearance for Film & TV" was authored by Joy R. Butler and featured in Variety Magazine VIP+.

The specialty report provides insights into the current state of the entertainment industry. It discusses how the influx of streaming services has changed the industry’s landscape.

The report underscores a fundamental truth: 'without meticulous rights clearance, many promising productions may never reach consumers.'

Reflecting on her time working on the report, Sade shared, “This work deepened my understanding of rights clearances, a topic I recently discussed in my Entertainment Law Seminar... My contributions to the article reinforced my passion to pursue a career in [Intellectual Property].”
