Best of Oceanside "Stay and Play Local" Feature - Kimy Gets Skinny
Dieting can be bland, boring, and downright depressing, a phenomena Kimy Aguirre, curator of the Doatnut, experienced firsthand when beginning her journey towards healthy living. Inspired to create healthy, delicious meals, Kimy began experimenting with foods and finding recipes she loved. Her journey included modifying her diet to incorporate healthy fats, lean protein, low carbs and less sugar.
Kimy decided that in order for her weightloss to be sustainable, she needed to reinvent one of her favorite guilty pleasures, the donut. She invested in an inexpensive tiny coffee grinder and began hand grinding her own steel cut oats. After countless attempts, Kimy created the perfect, baked-to-perfection, guilt-free treat now known as “The Doatnut” (pronounced Doh - Oat - Nut). The tiny grinder and the tiny home kitchen have grown into industrial milling machines, restaurant equipment and ultimately, her very own pink shop.
