Best of Oceanside Magazine Stay and Play Local Feature - Beach Break Cafe

Started in 1988 by Gary and Zell Dwelley, Beach Break Cafe has established itself as an essential part of the Oceanside community. Located off the historic 101 Highway, this surf-inspired diner serves American fare with a California twist. People taking a break from the beach, or those who want a pre-ocean meal, flock here for the moist, cinnamon-laced coffee cake drizzled with frosting or the giant and inventive four-egg omelets and scrambles. While dining, patrons can check out the colorful surfboards, surfboard-inspired ceiling fan and surf photos that decorate this breakfast-and-lunch-only spot. The Banana Crunch French Toast is a favorite, dipped in honey bunches of oats for the crunch and then topped with bananas and a healthy dose of whipped cream. The wait can be long on weekends, but the Dwelley's set up an honor-system coffee station. Come on down to this coastal spot for “Great Service. Great Food. Great Friends.”

Harbor Dredging to Occur April - May

(Source - City of Oceanside) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans to begin mobilizing on April 3 for the annual dredge of the Oceanside Harbor inlet. The dredge is expected to begin about April 12, 2023. They plan to wrap up operations by Memorial Day weekend, but there may be times when dredging is paused due to high waves or equipment issues, which can result in delays. This year, they estimate about 500,000 cubic yards of sand will be placed on Oceanside beaches, which is much more than usual. Please use caution in and around the beach area while the project is underway.

CalChamber Tags AB 1000 As a Job Killer; Creates De Facto Ban of Warehouses

(Source: CalChamber) - The California Chamber of Commerce has added AB 1000 (Reyes; D-San Bernardino) to the 2023 Job Killer list. AB 1000 proposes a statewide setback of 1,000 feet from “sensitive receptors” for all new or expanded logistics use facilities 100,000 square feet or larger in California.

“AB 1000 is a job killer because it will lead to the elimination of high-paying jobs, quash critically needed housing associated with mixed use developments, increase vehicle miles traveled for heavy duty vehicles coming to and from California ports, and incentivize frivolous litigation with a new private right of action in California law,” said Adam Regele, CalChamber Vice President for Advocacy.

Volunteering Is A Family Affair At Tri-City Hospital Auxiliary

“Our volunteers are like family,” said Linda Wolff, President of the Tri-City Hospital Auxiliary. “Many of our volunteers, or someone they know, have been patients at Tri-City Medical Center (TCMC) and they just want to give back. Volunteering gives people a sense of purpose and a chance to make others smile when they come to our hospital.”

“At Tri-City Hospital Auxiliary, our purpose has always been focused on service rather than fundraising,” added Wolff. “Our mission is to render service to Tri-City Medical Center, its patients and staff, and to assist the hospital in promoting the health and wellbeing of the Oceanside, Vista and Carlsbad communities.”
