The Oceanside Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Forum provides an avenue for Oceanside Chamber members to learn about key issues relating to Oceanside's relationship with Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton and the servicemembers serving on the base. This month's speaker will be Lt. Col Daniel Whitley providing an update on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton activities. This meeting is open to all Oceanside Chamber members and invited guests only, and will be held the second Thursday of the month (odd numbered months), from 8am to 9:00am in the Oceanside Chamber conference room.

On August 11, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the Oceanside Chamber will hold its 14th Annual North County Health & Wellness Fair. This event provides an opportunity for local health & wellness related businesses to promote their products and services and provide demonstrations for community members.
The North County Health Fair is FREE to the public and a great way to receive information, meet a new health specialist, or learn more about healthy living. Located at the beautiful Oceanside Civic Center Plaza, the North County Health Fair will run concurrently with the popular Downtown Farmer's Market. Meet Mario Lopez, Utilities Plant Electrician I, who tells us all about his role with the City of Oceanside Water Utilities Department. A Utilities Plant Electrician tests, troubleshoots and repairs electrical problems, both minor and major, in automatic main power controls, feeders, panels, sub-panels, and electrical components. Mario earned a Certificate for his job at the Western Electrical Contractors Association. Learn more with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Water and Wastewater Competency Model.

City of Oceanside Community Forum
Farmland Conservation Easements

On the evening of July 13th, the City’s Planning Division will host a community forum on farmland conservation strategies, with emphasis on approaches to acquiring farmland conservation easements. The forum will include presentations from experts in the land conservation field, followed by an open house that will allow participants to engage directly with these experts. The forum is primarily meant to inform the implementation of a greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction measure outlined in the City’s Climate Action Plan. This emissions reduction measure calls upon the City to leverage California’s Sustainable Agriculture Land Conservation (SALC) program to facilitate the acquisition of farmland conservation easements in South Morro Hills. The forum will also provide additional context for the South Morro Hills Community Plan.

Mandatory Training Deadline Looms for Alcohol Servers, Managers
(Source: CalChamber) - Businesses licensed to serve alcohol should be preparing for their upcoming alcohol server training and certification requirements, based on the Responsible Beverage Service Training Program Act created in 2017 with the passage of AB 1221. Under this law, alcohol servers, as defined, must successfully complete a Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) Training Program offered or authorized by the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC). Originally slated to take effect July 1, 2021, the Responsible Beverage Service Training Program Act was extended due to the COVID-19 pandemic (AB 82) and will now take effect on July 1, 2022.

Oceanside Chamber of Commerce partner, the Camp Pendleton area chapter of the Marine Executive Association, is holding their next networking meeting Tuesday, July 19th at 1700 at the Oceanside Broiler. MEA's mission is to assist Marines seeking transition assistance from active-duty or reserve/retired status, leaving the Corps at the end of obligated service, or moving from one civilian career to another. Network with area employers, learn interviewing and hiring tips from others, and learn about local transition support resources. Consider registering for one of MEA’s career prep workshops. SCORE Offers Small Business Training Workshops
SCORE San Diego volunteers are experienced entrepreneurs, corporate managers, and executives with a diverse set of industries and specialties, offered in small-business training workshops. For $25, clients receive a two- to three-hour workshop, in person at SCORE San Diego, 8825 Aero Drive, Suite 102, San Diego, or on Zoom; a PDF of the presentation; and a link to the final workshop video. SCORE also can provide workshops in full or short form privately for your organization by request. “Challenging the Idea of Public Safety” a Free Mental Health Event Hosted by Lived Experiences
On August 10th from 10 AM - 5 PM at the Star Theatre in Oceanside (402 N Coast Hwy. Oceanside, CA 92054), ten influential leaders will share the importance of trauma, language and solution based data that leads to improve healthier communities, reimagining policing, and innovative social work practices. The goal of the event is to have a different kind of gathering, looking at community health from different perspectives in the hope of finding pathways forward to improve the lives of the most marginalized in our communities.

Over the last 20 years, what once was the safest place for our children – school – has turned into a place of constant worry and questionable security. In the face overwhelming grief over the tremendous loss of life at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, it feels like we have arrived at a time where school shootings and mass killings are the norm. With school and public venue safety at the top of our minds, I want to remind San Diegans of the efforts the District Attorney’s Office has undertaken to prioritize school safety and to emphasize the critical role the public plays in preventing school shootings.
