The Oceanside Chamber Partners with the North County Food Bank's for the Annual Scare Away Hunger Peanut Butter Drive
During the month of October, North County companies and organizations partner with the NCFB to raise peanut butter for our Scare Away Hunger Peanut Butter Drive and help us collect this highly coveted food for local children and families in need.
Why Peanut Butter?
Peanut butter is an excellent source of protein for children and families. It is popular with kids. It’s shelf-stable, and one jar can provide more than 12 sandwiches.
Peanut butter is very expensive for the Food Bank to purchase. That is why this year’s peanut butter food drive will be instrumental in helping stock the Food Bank’s shelves with this nutrient-rich superfood for local families in need.
How to Donate?
Donations can be dropped at the Oceanside Chamber offices or through our online food drive.

Chambers Plays Significant Role in Defeating Job Killer Bills
The Oceanside Chamber joined Cal Chamber coalition efforts to defeat numerous bills that would have adversely impacted our business community. In 2022, the California Chamber of Commerce identified 19 job killer bills, voicing concern that the bills reflected a lack of appreciation of the economic realities and regulatory challenges employers—and especially small business employers—face as they continue to emerge from the impacts of the pandemic. Just two bills identified as job killers passed the Legislature. Both were signed by the Governor.

Chamber Joins Coalition to Defeat Prop 30
The Oceanside Chamber Board has voted to join a bi-partisan coalition to defeat Proposition 30 on the November 8th ballot. Though marketed as a clean air initiative to benefit all Californians, Prop 30 on the November 2022 ballot is nearly entirely funded by a single corporation, Lyft, which is spending millions of dollars in an attempt to secure billions of dollars in subsidies from California taxpayers. If enacted, California Proposition 30 would impose a new state income tax of 1.75% on income over $2 million, despite a nearly $100 billion surplus. Prop 30 burdens Californians – not just the wealthy, but small business owners and job creators – with billions in new taxes at a time of record inflation.

Celebrating 60 Years of Newborn Screening to Prevent Serious Disorders and Save Lives
(Source: Tri-City Medical Center) - Sixty years ago, when Tri-City Medical Center had just opened its doors, Dr. Robert Guthrie, a microbiologist and pediatrician in Buffalo, NY, developed the “Guthrie test” – a simple and inexpensive blood spot test to screen for phenylketonuria (PKU) in newborns, a debilitating rare disease if left untreated. The test is still used today to screen nearly four million babies born each year in the US for approximately 35 treatable conditions listed on the Recommended Uniform Screening Panel (RUSP). Many of these conditions are not apparent at birth.
