About the Program
Join the Robert Zicklin Center for Corporate Integrity for our luncheon program The Accountant Who Took on Halliburton... and Won, a Q&A with Whistleblower Anthony Menendez. Participants will learn what whistleblowing is and how it can contribute to an effective, democratic capitalistic society.  Hear Mr. Menendez explain in his own words why he chose to blow the whistle on Halliburton and the consequences he faced for his actions. The session will be led by Baruch's own whistleblower expert, Professor Jennifer Pacella.  Mr. Menendez will take questions for the audience.

This program is part of Baruch College's Ethics Week 2016
About the Speakers
Anthony Menendez is a senior accounting and finance executive with 20 years of experience. At General Motors, as the U.S. Controller for Sales and Marketing, he oversees the recognition and reporting of over $100 billion in annual revenues while providing technical review and approval of complex contractual arrangements involving vehicle sale arrangements, pricing, incentives, marketing, advertising, and strategic promotional activities.

Prior to GM, as a financial reporting expert, consulted attorneys representing institutional investors involved in complex nationally litigated shareholder disputes involving improper financial accounting and reporting allegations. He also developed and delivered finance and accounting solutions to professionals around the globe focused on U.S. GAAP, IFRS, SOX, and SEC reporting rules. As a former audit executive at Ernst & Young as a member of the firm's Entrepreneurial and Emerging Growth Group, he assisted several clients navigating pre and post public offerings and complex business transactions. Mr. Menendez is widely recognized for his decade long legal battle with Halliburton as a corporate whistleblower under Sarbanes-Oxley. Despite having no formal legal training, as a pro se litigant he ultimately prevailed in the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. His legal victory has had a profound and positive impact on the whistleblower body of law.

Jennifer M. Pacella is an Assistant Professor of Law at Baruch College's Zicklin School of Business.   Jennifer is also a member of the Curriculum Faculty Committee of the Government Accountability Project.  Her scholarship focuses on the structure and effectiveness of federal whistleblower programs, specifically in the securities law context, as well as the anti-retaliation protections and bounty rewards elements of these programs.  Prior to joining the Zicklin faculty, Jennifer served as a law clerk to Judge Julio M. Fuentes of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and practiced business law in Shearman & Sterling LLP's New York office.
