Volume 15 | September 2024

September is National Recovery Month. ABC Recovery Center recognizes our important work and celebrates all those who are in recovery during this annual month-long event. National Recovery Month (Recovery Month), which started in 1989, is a national observance held every September to promote and support new evidence-based treatment and recovery practices, the nation’s strong and proud recovery community, and the dedication of service providers and communities who make recovery in all its forms possible.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) Office of Recovery has themed 2024 “The Art of Recovery” which aims to highlight the transformative impact of art on mental health and substance use recovery. Through creative expression, individuals can find connection, healing, and empowerment. By promoting artistic avenues as viable tools for coping, self-discovery, and expression, this project aspires to break down societal stigma surrounding mental health conditions and substance use, fostering understanding and support for those on their journey to wellness.

A Message from the

Chief Executive Officer

Dear Friends and Supporters of ABC Recovery Center,

As we welcome September, we are reminded of the significance this month holds in our hearts and in our mission. September is Recovery Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about substance use disorders and celebrating the millions of individuals who have embarked on the courageous journey toward recovery. At ABC Recovery Center, Recovery Month is more than just a calendar event; it is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do every single day.

Our mission at ABC Recovery Center is to provide compassionate, evidence-based care that empowers individuals to reclaim their lives from the grip of addiction. Recovery Month aligns perfectly with our commitment to this mission. It offers us an opportunity to not only honor the progress of those we serve but also to educate our community about the realities of addiction and the hope that recovery brings.

I am also thrilled to share an exciting milestone in our ongoing efforts to expand and enhance the services we offer. We have officially broken ground on our Behavioral Health Continuum Infrastructure Program (BHCIP) expansion project! This expansion will add 120 new beds to our facility, allowing us to provide life-saving treatment and care to even more individuals in need. The grading process has begun, and we are eagerly watching the transformation of our campus as we build for the future.

This expansion represents a significant step forward in our mission to meet the growing demand for substance use treatment services. We know that the need for accessible, high-quality care has never been greater, and this project will enable us to make a profound difference in the lives of many more individuals and their families.

As we celebrate Recovery Month and the progress of our expansion project, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to each of you. Your support, whether through your time, donations, or advocacy, makes it possible for us to continue this critical work. Together, we are building a stronger, healthier community where recovery is always possible.

Thank you for being a part of our journey. I look forward to sharing more updates with you as we continue to grow and serve those in need.

Warm regards,

Chris Yingling - CEO

Every month, the ABC Recovery Center team identifies our Rock Stars. This is a peer designation which makes it even more special. Rock Stars are member of our staff who are going above and beyond the expectations of their positions. They are making our mission happen and are integral to the important changes we are helping our clients make in their lives.

Monthly, staff are included in the request to nominate a Rock Star. They are asked what inspired them to nominate their peer and are provided six criteria to select from that apply to their nominee. The survey is tabulated, and the winners are announced by Human Resources.

Our June Rock Star is Christian Astorga! (pictured on the left below with Ally Anderson) Christian is a primary therapist in our residential program. He is one of our newest staff members and recently presented is dissertation. He is now Dr. Christian Astorga! Christian came to us by way of Riverside County's Child Protective Services and he has jumped in with both feet. He is well respected by both his peers and clients. We appreciate his dedication to ABC's mission. Congratulations Christian!

Our July Rock Star is Haydee Galvan pictured on the right, below, with Johnny Courreges). Haydee has been a member of the ABC team since October 2022 and has been promoted to a client care coordinator in transitional living. Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for (audience)? Why should they care (benefit)? What do I want them to do (call-to-action)?

Create a great offer by adding words like "free," "personalized," "complimentary," or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take action, so consider inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"

A big "Thank you" to the owners of La Quinta's Nothing Bundt Cakes, Ellie Koch and Jeff Tropple. Their thoughtful generosity in providing cakes for us each month helps us recognize and celebrate those in our organization who have been given another year, and a second chance at life.

Congratulations Ellie and Jeff as you transition La Quinta's Nothing Bundt Cakes into the hands of new owners. We wish you and your team nothing BUNDT the best.

With sincere thanks,

ABC Recovery Center's Core Values
We Value. . .
An organizational culture and delivery of service promoting the belief that no one life is more important than another. We value every person, every client as an individual and respect their journey providing dignity, and empathy to everyone seen and served.

Those who are like-minded and adhere to the science that addiction is a disease and those challenged with this disease deserve compassion, encouragement and every opportunity in attaining a new beginning.

Our work towards an organizational future when we will have the capacity to open our doors to anyone who will need our services without concern for compensation.

The search for and incorporation of leading therapies, treatments, and care models that provide our clients the greatest opportunity for successful sobriety.

The unlimited courage of our clients who seek treatment, for their life-affirming decision to say, “no more” and taking difficult steps that will be life-changing.

All those who encourage and support our clients and help shepherd them on their life-long journey, as we extend our care by incorporating family members whenever possible.

The time, education, training, effort and sacrifice of the employees at ABC Recovery Center, as they administer care to those we serve, often under difficult circumstances. Each one serving ethically and bench-marking our industry’s highest standards.

The fostering of teamwork and the creation of a culture that encourages collaboration rather than competition. Everyone on our team is an integral cog in the wheel, in support of our client's recovery.

The support of our donor community, whose contributions we steward with the utmost care.

The legacy of all clients served and how their journey further affirms our dedication and informs our service.
