- Thanksgiving Throwdown -
Sparkling
Let's be honest, the Thanksgiving meal starts long before the Turkey is served. Hors d'oeuvres are a meal onto themselves, and you're going to want something festive to sip on while you graze. Greet your guests with a celebratory glass of bubbles. We love the budget friendly Poggio Costa Brut Prosecco ($15.99) with fruit forward starters, such as Prosciutto-wrapped-dates. The Poderi Cellario La Grinozza Pet Nat ($21.99) is herbal and earthy but with juicy red currant and cherry fruit. This liter of versatile bubbles could be enjoyed with salty small bites, the salad course, or even with your turkey and cranberry sauce! Of course, nothing says "celebration" like Champagne. We love the bready, luxurious Voirin-Jumel Brut Tradition Champagne ($49.99). This is the perfect sidekick for salty snacks and creamy dips.
White Wines
When it comes to Thanksgiving, there are a lot of strong flavors on the table. You need a white wine that is versatile and gastronomic. That means something with good acidity, and enough texture to hold up to richer side dishes. The Domaine De La Bretonniere Muscadet ($14.99) is made from 35+ year old vines of Melon De Bourgogne. The wine is acid driven, with salty citrus notes, and a round mouthfeel from 6 months of lees aging. The Cieck Erbaluce di Caluso ($25.99) is a fresh, structured, mineral-driven Italian option. On the palate, there is bright orange blossom balanced by notes of almond. Of course, Chardonnay is the go-to crowd pleaser for heavier holiday foods. We love the Lioco Sonoma Chardonnay ($31.99) for the sharp acidity that punctuates the rich, oaked wine. Full bodied and buttery with notes of marzipan, apple pastry, ginger and lemon blossom.
Red Wine
Senorio De Pecina Cosecha Rioja ($15.99) is a beautiful Tempranillo wine that's not too heavily oaked. This wine is full bodied and grippy, with a flavorful profile of plum, black cherry and spice. The Cosecha can hold up to similarly bold flavors, so enjoy it with flavorful dark turkey meat and bacon covered Brussel sprouts! The G.D. Vajra Langhe Rosso ($19.99) is more medium bodied with red fruits, savory notes and bright acidity. We love this alongside anything covered in cranberry sauce or eaten with herbal stuffing. Chateau De Vaux Pinot Noir ($33.99) is a beautiful, food friendly option with pretty cherry notes, silky tannins, and soft floral notes. This Pinot will play nicely with your entire plate, refreshing your palate with each sip!
Dessert Wine
We hope you saved room for dessert! Broadbent Rainwater Madeira ($14.99) is softly sweet, with classic notes of dried fruits & nuts. Try this dessert wine with Pecan Pie. The Lafleur Mallet Sauternes ($21.99) has beautiful botrytised notes of ginger, honey, oranges and candied fruits. This wine will be perfect for custard pies, such as the classic Pumpkin Pie. The Warre's Otima 20 Year Tawny Port ($64.99) is an outstanding expression of a Tawny and a guaranteed way to impress your guests. Smooth and rich with notes of nuts, salt, fig, caramel, and dried orange — this wine would go phenomenally with most Thanksgiving desserts. Hell, grab a sampler plate of pies: apple, pecan, pumpkin ... maybe a little cheesecake? You cannot go wrong with the Otima 20.

Cocktail of the Week: Autumn In Jersey
Autumn in Jersey is an applejack cocktail. Applejack is a blend of apple brandy and neutral grain spirit. It gives the applejack a lighter more apple-y flavor than most apple brandies. Applejack has been called Jersey lightning since the prohibition days. So that's what's Jersey about this drink. This cocktail combines the Applejack, lemon and Orgeat with a sprig of mint to freshen it up — perfect for a crisp fall evening.
Ingredients:
2oz Laird's Applejack
.75oz Fee Brothers Orgeat Syrup
.75oz Fresh Lemon Juice
2 dashes Angostura Bitters

Instructions:
Add all ingredients into a shaker. Fill a rocks glass with crushed ice. Without shaking, pour your mixture over crushed ice and top with more crushed ice. Garnish with a mint sprig.
Cheers,
Nikola
Staff Picks - What to Drink this Week
Try these special, staff-selected libations!

Poderi Cellario La Grinozza Pet Nat - $21.99
This is the time of year that I will bring in a real goofball of a wine into the shop because I know it's perfect for the holiday table and La Grinozza from Poderi Cellario is that wine. This 100% Grignolino from the hills of Langhe is organically farmed, frizzante, and comes in a Liter bottle that is best for sharing. From third generation winemakers Fousto and Cinzia who, as serious as they are about farming and wine making, their wines are all about fun and celebration. As traditionally Piemontese as anything out there but on the light hearted fun side of this very serious wine making region (hello...Barolo). In the glass it's all fresh berries and herbs with that perfect Pet Nat prickle and is sure to be a hit with the cool cousins and aunties alike!

2021 Domain Gregoire Hoppenot, Fleurie 'Origines' - $27.99
This is an intoxicating Gamay from 2 of Gregoire Hoppenot's vineyards in Fleurie (one of the 10 Crus of Beaujolais). The young east-facing vines of his Les Roches vineyard bring bright fruit to the cuvee, while the much older southern facing vines of his Les Garants vineyard bring structure and substance. Organic farming is adhered to strictly and only native yeasts from the vineyards are used in fermentation. Fermentation and aging are in concrete vats to retain freshness while softening the wine to a luscious silkiness. The wine is a bright garnet color and opens with enticing floral aromas of violets and rose petals, while the mouthwatering flavors of juicy red berry fruit on the palate are held in check by light and easy earthy undertones. This would make a great pairing with traditional Burgundian Coq au Vin.

2020 Domaine Kientzler Gewurztraminer - $26.99
This Gewurztraminer comes from the Grand Cru Osterberg region outside of Ribeauvillé where the Kientzler family has been for five generations tending to their vines. This wine is full of rose and stone fruit aromas that follow through into its flavors with a warming amount of baking spice. There is also a light amount of acidity to balance out the sweetness and body on the palate. This wine can accompany typical thanksgiving foods from aged cheeses to pumpkin pie, it's approachable enough to appease any guest at the table making it an excellent holiday wine!

Fidencio Mezcal Clasico - $49.99
The more I try mezcal, the more it grows on me. I got to try Fidencio Clasico for the first time last week when I was out for dinner. As mezcals can get really pricey real quick, Fidencio is a great value for what you get in the bottle. The agave is bold and brash, but in a pleasant way. I'm no agave expert, but I would describe this mezcal as primarily earthy with a moderate amount of smoke. I wouldn't necessarily call it the "smoothest", but it's dang good for the price. If you want an everyday sipper mezcal or are looking for something new, bold, and agave-forward to try, give Fidencio a try.
