Last week we had the pleasure of honoring volunteers at our Volunteer Appreciation Celebration. Our volunteers provide countless hours of service across many of our departments, services and support organizations. Here are just a few ways they support our library and community:
- In the Makerspace, we have experts in 3D printing and laser-cutting teaching the community about these technologies.
- Our Traveling Storytime readers visit children at local preschools and daycare centers, spreading the love of reading.
- Friends of the Library volunteers help manage the bookstore and book donations that fund the vast majority of our programs.
- Library Foundation volunteers raise funds for initiatives like Career Online High School and Bridging the Digital Divide.
-
Project READ volunteers offer one-on-one tutoring for youth, adults and families.
- Tech help volunteers offer one-on-one assistance to folks that need help navigating the technology in their lives.
- Collection Maintenance volunteers help pull holds and organize our books so that the community has quick and easy access.
If you would like to give a few hours of your time to Redwood City Public Library, we are always seeking new volunteers. Find the right position on our volunteer page or reach out to us to get more information: Learn more

Save the Date: Meet Children's Book Author and Illustrator team
Redwood City Library Foundation (RCLF) is hosting a spring fundraiser on Monday, May 20 at 6:30pm in the Downtown Library Community Room. Celebrated local author Jorge Argueta and illustrator Elizabeth Gómez will be at the library to meet library families in an intimate setting. They will debut their book “Bilingüe, Superhéroe / Bilingual, Superhero,” a compelling story with an important theme: speaking more than one language is a super power. They will discuss how a children's book evolves from concept to publication.
Tickets are $40 (for up to 4 seats). Reservations are required – the event has limited seating. The ticket price includes a link to stream the feature-length documentary film "Story and Pictures By” (a film by Joanna Rudnick) before or after the event. The film takes audiences behind the scenes to meet the boundary pushers who create children’s picture books. Excerpts from the film will be shown at the event. View the film trailer link here

Bring the family to share the joy of books and help raise funds to support Redwood City Public Library at the same time!
