Thanks for Giving!
During the month of November, Goodwill would like to say,
Thank You!
to supporters and donors by hosting a month-long Thanks for Giving Contest. Goodwill donation centers throughout the community will be providing information on the contest during the month of November.

Goodwill Hosts First Virtual Fundraiser to Support Programming
Like many non-profits, Goodwill’s annual fundraising event shifted to a virtual fundraiser this year. From October 19th – October 23rd, Goodwill hosted the Working for Independence Fundraiser to raise funds to support training and employment programs, which have seen a nearly 40% increase in demand during 2020. While different, this year’s event was hosted by an actor from ABC’s MODERN FAMILY.

Volunteer Spotlight - Dr. James Smyth
Dr. James “Jamie” Smyth, Associate Professor at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at Virginia Tech Carilion and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine in Roanoke, has volunteered and participated in Goodwill’s Science Camp since it began in 2016. His commitment to the Roanoke Valley, and to the youth who attend Goodwill’s YouthHQ@Goodwill is inspiring.

Annual Awards Ceremony Honors Individuals, Supporters, and Employees
Goodwill hosted the Annual Awards Ceremony on Thursday, September 17, 2020, to recognize those who have made Goodwill’s service during the past year possible. Originally scheduled for May, this year’s event was postponed and moved outdoors at the Roanoke Jobs Campus, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Providing Hope in 2020
A Message from Our President & CEO, Bruce Phipps
We’ve all heard it multiple times, 2020 has been a long and challenging year. Many of us have adjusted our lives by working remotely, not seeing friends and family in person, and of course, wearing our masks. However, for others in our community, 2020 has been devastating. Many people are struggling to make ends meet after losing a job or taking a reduction in pay. We have seen the need for Goodwill’s training and employment services increase by nearly 40% this year. We expect this will continue for the foreseeable future.
