November is here and it is a great time to give thanks for our amazing community. As we head into the holiday season we're so grateful to get to celebrate YOU and all the incredible achievements of this year.

There is so much happening this November! Keep reading to learn about our new team members, an upcoming virtual college exploration event, fun & free activities, community volunteer opportunities this holiday season, and how you and your match can start the conversation around self-care this month!

CONVERSATION STARTERS | Self-Care

During this time of year, full of school projects, college applications, and lots of fun activities, it can be hard to slow down and take time for yourself. That is why this month, we are encouraging matches to talk about self-care. This month, ask your match:

  • What is the most helpful thing you do for yourself when you are stressed?
  • What activities in your life bring you the most stress?
  • What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?
  • What areas of your life do you prioritize?

For more conversation starters, tools, and resources check out our Mentoring Road Map.

OCTOBER EVENTS RECAP | Sitar Arts Center + Match Social

Sitar Arts Center

A group of protégés spent a Friday afternoon at Sitar Arts Center, a local non-profit dedicated to the advancement of the arts for youth in DC. The protégés were given a tour of a performing arts theater, dance studio, and music studio. Sitar then ran an Art Therapy collaging event, and afterward, the protégés ended up back in the music studio for an impromptu jam session! We had protégés on drums, bass guitar, keyboards, and more.

Match Social

We had our first Match Social in a while, and it was a resounding success! The event was volleyball and mini golf at Garfield Park in SE DC. Both protégés and mentors got a chance to meet other matches, hang out, and have a FUN, semi-competitive game of volleyball. We look forward to hosting more social events and continuing to build the Mentors, Inc. @ Kid Power community.

Be sure to keep an eye on our Events Page for upcoming socials and PowerUp! Events. You can also save the date for Saturday, December 9th for our next match social. See you there!

Scholarship Description:

As a scholarship seeker, you're probably already well aware of the importance of an education. But, what about the naysayers? Have you come across someone who's tried to talk you out of college, saying that it's not worth it?
