Thank You
Thank you to our Walther Annual Fund donors who have provided $42,000 in unrestricted support for Walther students since the beginning of the fiscal year in July. These donations are a vital part of Walther’s budget for operating expenses not covered by tuition and fees. These expenses include, but are not limited to, academic resources, support personnel, building maintenance and, one of our largest expenses, student financial aid. A total of 202 gifts were made by 160 donors, including seven donors who provide support on a monthly basis as part of our Monthly Giving Circle.
You’re invited to join our Monthly Giving Circle
For those where making a significant year-end gift is not possible, joining the monthly giving circle could be the answer. A donation of as little as $25 a month will result in a gift of $300 after one year. Recurring donations may be set up online at Walther.com/donate using a credit card or you can request a direct payment authorization form to have the funds withdrawn directly from your checking account. Of course, a personal check sent monthly works too. Questions? Call at 708.344.0404, ext. 225 or email

The 2016 Walther Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band Spring Tour will make stops in Destin, Florida (March 8), Auburn, Alabama (March 9) and Danville, Illinois (March 11) before returning to present a concert at Walther on March 12. More details about concert times and locations will be provided in next month’s enews. If you are part of the Walther family and live near these areas, please come out and support our student musicians.
Walther's annual Spring Concert I on May 21 will also be Mr. Richard Rose's "Farewell" concert. Mr. Rose (pictured above left, top and bottom) has served Walther for over 35 years and will retire at the end of this school year. Events are being planned for the weekend of May 20-21 to give alumni of both Walther and the Grade School Band Program who have been impacted by Mr. Rose's ministry the opportunity to gather, eat, reminisce and even "jam" with "Band Man Rose" one last time. Details will be included in the next issue of enews, but if you would like to be sure you are on the mailing list for the event invitation, please contact Samantha Rose at samantha_rose@walther.com.

Thank You and a Warm Welcome
We’d like to extend a heart-felt thank you to Ms. Alyssa Butler for her work as our semester-long substitute teacher in the PE and Health department. Ms. Butler undertook a great challenge in helping Walther fill a need that arose so closely to the beginning of our school year. She invested a lot of time and energy into her students and it was well noted! We wish her blessings as she looks to pursue the next steps of her professional journey.
The Walther family would also like to extend a warm welcome to Ms. Nina Hertz (pictured above left) who has been hired to fill the full-time teaching position of Girls’ PE and Health education. Ms. Hertz graduated from Northeastern Illinois University with a degree in Community Health and Wellness. She completed her student teaching at Glenbard East High School in 2016, resides in Addison and attends St. Philip’s Catholic Church. In her free time she enjoys spending time with family and friends and traveling to as many new places as possible.

Alumni Spotlight:
Redemption Road Coffee Owners Aaron & Jessica (Wick) Harsch '03
Aaron Harsch '03 began roasting his own coffee in a WhirleyPop crank-handle popcorn maker in 2010. As he researched and experimented he began to perfect his roast creating a smooth, flavorful coffee. During that time, Aaron, with the support of his wife Jessica (Wick) Harsch '03 (both pictured on top at left), began a Colorado-based ministry called Redemption Road.
Redemption Road runs group sessions and weekend retreats that help formerly incarcerated men learn how to live in freedom.
In the fall of 2015 a friend made a comment to Aaron in passing, "You should sell this coffee to support Redemption Road." For some reason that idea hit home. Aaron started considering what it would take to start a coffee roasting business. That Thanksgiving, he and his wife decided they would make this a reality. They bought an industrial drum roaster, obtained the necessary licenses and opened for business.
Not only would this coffee support their own family, but they would give 10% of the profits away to help support Redemption Road and other great causes. For more information or to support this small business, visit RedemptionRoadCoffee.com
Alumni Spotlight: Blackhawks Warrior Richard Duzinskas '03
Bronco Richard Duzinskas '03 (pictured at bottom in above photo) was recently interviewed for a Chicago Sun-Times article about his participation on the Blackhawks Warriors Hockey Team. The goal of the team, sponsored in part by the Chicago Blackhawks, is to bring wounded veterans together around a sport.
