Restaurant Liquor License Up For Bid

Kylie Hawn, Assistant Editor - The Daily News

August 20, 2024

For the first time since 2019, a restaurant liquor license from Huntingdon County is available for bid in the upcoming Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) online auction.

The PLCB issued this invitation for bids with the hopes of selling 20 expired restaurant liquor licenses in 20 counties, including Huntingdon County.

This is the 13th auction since Act 39 became effective in August 2016. The bids are due by noon Tuesday, Oct. 1.

Shawn Kelly, a PLCB spokesperson, said the expired license in Huntingdon County is from Springfield Township; however, he couldn't provide any more details.

"The license is unencumbered, which means it is clear of any citations that were attached to it previously," he said. "It's a fresh, clean license, so the highest bidder will be able to acquire it if they go through the transfer process."

State College Regional Airport Announces More Flights to Philadelphia, Chicago and Washington Dulles

Sydney Roach - WPSU

August 20, 2024

The State College Regional Airport is adding more flights and bigger planes to its fall schedule. Airport representatives say increased service will help meet high traffic demand to and from Penn State.

American Airlines added a fourth flight to Philadelphia on Aug. 6, and will add a fifth one in October.

Starting this week, United Airlines is offering three daily flights to Washington Dulles International.

Next month, United will add a fourth flight a day going to Chicago.

"Around Sept. 21st, the Chicago flights will move from a 50 seat aircraft to a 76 seat aircraft, an Embraer 175, which also provides first class service," said James Meyer, the executive director of the Centre County Airport Authority. He spoke at Tuesday's Centre County Commissioners meeting.

Jason McMurtrie, the authority's terminal manager, said these added flights and bigger planes coincide with Penn State's move-in week. He said there are many international students, who often carry a lot of luggage.

As you probably know by now, we very often partner with our surrounding Chambers and Chambers across the state and nation. These relationships are crucial to our Chamber and how we serve our community. On Wednesday, we had the opportunity to celebrate the retirement of Blair County Chamber of Commerce's President/CEO, Joe Hurd. Joe served the Blair County Chamber of Commerce for 27 years and accomplished many great things that we were then able to bring to Huntingdon County as well. Joe is going to be missed and we want to wish him the very best in his next chapter. Happy Retirement Joe!

UC Fraud and UC-1099G Tax Forms

Victim of unemployment fraud?
Criminals using stolen identities filed claims for unemployment compensation in other people's names. Because unemployment compensation is taxable, state unemployment agencies submit Forms 1099-G to individuals in whose names and Social Security numbers the unemployment compensation was paid and to the IRS. Victims of fraud who receive Forms 1099-G with inaccurate amounts of unemployment compensation in Box 1 should notify the state agencies of the inaccuracies and request corrected Forms 1099-G. The Department of Labor details www.dol.gov/agencies/eta/UIIDtheft.

Taxpayers should only report income they actually received on their tax returns. Do not report income you did not receive. The IRS offers tax guidance to victims at https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/identity-theft-and-unemployment-benefits.

More Information
Did you know........

Small businesses represent the largest segment by number of most local chamber membership rolls. Results in the research study by The Shapiro Group, Inc. and Market Street indicate the impact of local chamber membership on small businesses is very powerful. If a consumer knows a small business is a member of its local chamber, the business enjoys a 44 percent increase in its consumer favorability rating, a 51 percent increase in consumer awareness, a 57 percent increase in its local reputation and a 63 percent increase in the likelihood that consumers will patronize the business in the future.

Research indicates that chamber membership stimulates business-to-business commerce in the local community. Other businesses in town are more likely to do business with you and your company if you are a member of the local chamber. Because a major part of a small business typically comes from business-to-business services, it is essential to maintain a positive standing within the local business community.
