Dear Residents,

I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who attended the recent town hall meeting. Your presence, engagement, and insightful contributions were invaluable. It's your active participation that helps us address the community's needs effectively and shape our shared future.

I also want to recognize and appreciate the hard work of our district and city staff for organizing the meeting and delivering informative department presentations. Their dedication and effort made the event a success.

As promised, I have included a copy of my slide deck presentation, which details the roles within the city, budget information, and current policies under review.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement.

Warm regards,

Council Member Kevin Jenkins

Open Doors at City Hall - We're Here for You

Dear Community Members,

You may have seen a recent news segment or social media post discussing the challenges that public workers face in returning to the office. You can view the segment here: ABC7 News Report on Public Workers. I want to reassure you that access to City Hall and opportunities to meet with your council member remain open and straightforward.

City Hall is a public space, dedicated to serving the community. As your council member, I am here to address your concerns, explore your ideas, or simply discuss community matters that are important to you.

To schedule a meeting, please contact my office through Gabriela Vivas-Suarez at gvivas-suarez@oaklandca.gov, and we will find a time that suits you best.

We also offer drop-in office hours every Mondays from 11 AM to 2 PM. During these hours, either I or a member of my staff will be available to speak with you directly—no appointment necessary.

Our commitment to being accessible and responsive to your needs is unwavering.

Public Safety

On May 17th, during the Public Safety Committee meeting, Council member Jenkins and Council member Reid will present a proposal to modify Oakland's pursuit policy, commonly referred to as the "no chase" policy. This policy, implemented by the Oakland Police Department in December 2022, is under review due to ongoing public safety concerns in our city.

If the committee passes the proposal, it will proceed to the full council for a vote, followed by a review by the Police Commission to formulate any necessary changes.

We need your support:

  • Attend the Public Safety Meeting: May 17th at 6 PM, Item #4. Voice your support in person.
  • Send an Email to the City Council:council@oaklandca.gov to express your support electronically.
  • Submit a Comment: Make your opinion heard by submitting a formal comment on the matter.

Your participation is crucial in shaping the safety policies that affect us all.

Thank you for your engagement and support.
