Terri's Tip...When is the last time you stopped being a busy human and took a few minutes to enjoy playfulness with your animal companion?
I have a new kitty friend, Dillion, that I rescued in November. He's learning the household full of animals as he explores how to feel safe playing with us.
Last night I was turning out the lights to go to bed when Dillon ran quickly in front of me, jumped up onto a chair, and posed in a very cute way. I smiled and petted his head as I said good night.
When I reached my bedroom, I realized he was inviting me to play. My serious human self said
too tired and it's time to go to sleep. But then I realized how lucky I was that this 9 year old boy cat felt safe and happy in his new life. What a bonding opportunity I was passing up.
We played for 20 minutes as I wiggled my hand under the cat blanket on the chair, creating a new game together. He pounced, flipped, flopped. I giggled while feeling much gratitude for his invitation to play.
I went off to sleep smiling.
Thank you Dillon!
Remember to let your animals bring you to joy. All species want to have fun!
