  Tenkara Summit
Tenkara Summit 2013, May 11-12, Harrisonburg Virginia

For those wanting to learn more about tenkara, the Japanese method of fly-fishing, Tenkara USA, along with Mossy Creek Fly-fishing, will be holding the 3rd annual Tenkara Summit in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The two day event will be held on May 11th-12th.

Tenkara has been growing in popularity in the USA. Tenkara is a simple method of fly-fishing that uses only a rod, line and fly and was first introduced outside of Japan in 2009 by Daniel Galhardo, and his company, Tenkara USA.

This will be the first Tenkara Summit held on the East Coast. Harrisonburg, Virginia, was chosen due to its very central location on the East coast, as it is within an easy drive for most Eastern states. The area also boasts of hundreds of miles of tenkara-perfect waters all around it.

The purpose of the Tenkara Summit is to bring together tenkara anglers and to share knowledge about the Japanese method of fly-fishing known as tenkara. The event is split into two days. Day one will be held at the Holiday Inn Harrisonburg, with presentations as well as casting and fly-tying clinics ($25, including lunch and evening entertainment). Day 2 will consist of free morning demos at the Riven Rock Park, with optional guided trips in the afternoon ($75, including lunch).

Scott Fly Rods
SCOTT FLY ROD FAN?
If you are, come give one a wiggle at Mossy Creek! We have A4's, S4's, S4S's, and F2's in stock in the most popular sizes for our area. Scott has been in high demand in our shop for years. Our recent merger with Dusty Wissmath solidified our need for rods. Dusty has been on the Scott Pro Staff for around 15 years. Chuck Kraft, a shop ambassador and legendary VA guide has been on the Scott Pro Staff almost his entire career. Come see why Scott has been so popular for 4 decades!

Attention All Anglers!
Smallmouth Bass
Fly Rod Smallmouth Bass 4/29/13
The spring fishing has been excellent. We literally caught brookies, browns, rainbows, smallmouth, and musky all in the same days worth of guiding last week! The big smallmouth are getting ready to spawn. We are seeing more and more spawning beds being swept every day. The big fish are aggressively eating CK baitfish, Clawdads, and Tube flies. The musky are finishing up spawning. Many of the fish look rough with cuts and scrapes from their recent spawning rituals. They are eating aggressively moving flies stripped deep and fast. Be sure to have full sinking lines right now as water levels are still up. The brook trout fishing has been fantastic. We have had some reports of 75 plus fish days out on Dry River. The dry fly action has been hot. The Shenandoah National Park streams are all fishing well. Get out and enjoy some wonderful spring time brookie fishing while we have great water flow. The spring creeks are fishing well. We have finally started to see some sulphur activity. These bugs are a tad late this year but we are also starting to see some early hatching drakes and grasshoppers.....yes, grasshoppers are already buzzing around the fields at Mossy Creek and Beaver Creek. We have epic water folks, great weather, and great populations of fish this year. Get out and enjoy it when you can!

Sincerely,
Colby Trow, Brian Trow, and The Mossy Creek Staff
