During our informal (and interactive) Shabbat Morning worship, we will dig deeper into the meaning of our traditional prayers and liturgical music, while including modern, interpretative versions that will challenge our understanding of our tradition, as well as a short Torah reading. Each week, we will include a prayer for healing and recitation of the Mourner's Kaddish in case you would like to share your personal prayers for those we love who are struggling and those we have lost.

This service works well for both the inexperienced pray-er as well as those well-versed in our prayer tradition (all liturgy, including English readings and transliteration, will be projected on screen).

I-Help needs you!

We really mean it!

I-HELP is an acronym for Interfaith Housing Emergency Lodging Program. It is a program of Tempe

Community Action Agency partners with a number of faith communities, clubs, and organizations to

combat homelessness.

Temple Emanuel is responsible for planning and preparing dinner and lunches for the first two Sundays of each month. The location for these meals varies - be sure to check with Jim Flegenheimer (see email below) for the location for your date. The meal start time is around 5:30 p.m. - volunteers should be ready in the host kitchen to allow time for any preparation needed to serve meals.  For Temple Emanuel to continue to participate, we desperately need more groups to volunteer.

As the Temple’s coordinator, Jim is responsible for filling these days with a volunteer willing to organize a group of anywhere from 2-8 friends or family members who cook a healthy meal and prepare a sack lunch for the next day.

If you can organize a small group and would like to partake in this mitzvah, please notify Jim by clicking here or on button below:

Jim Flegenheimer

The following dates are available for your group to sign up to feed people in need:

April 7 & 14

May 5 & 12

June 2 & 9

Please contact Jim Flegenheimer by clicking below for more information and then create a group to help on one or more of these dates. It's a Mitzvah!

TODAY, March 3 | FINAL DAY!

2024 Greater Phoenix Jewish Film Festival!

Don't miss this film, followed by a conversation with actor Shaina Silver-Baird: "Less Than Kosher"

3:00 PM — Harkins: Chandler Fashion

7:00 PM — Scottsdale Harkins: Shea

In this funny, ultra-contemporary film, Vi, a 30-year-old rebellious Jew moves back home when her attempts as a singer fail and money runs out. The family rabbi convinces Vi to accept a last-minute gig as a fill-in-cantor at her childhood synagogue. When a new-age Jewish song video she makes goes viral, the irreverent Vi finds her career veering in directions she never imagined.

The film will be followed by a conversation with the star in both Scottsdale and Chandler. Shaina Silver-Baird is an actor, musician, creator and producer from Toronto. She is the co-creator/co-writer, executive producer and star of Less Than Kosher which premiered at the Toronto Jewish Film Festival 2023 and won the Audience Choice award. Shaina has worked at major theaters across Canada and toured the US, Europe and the Middle East. She is currently starring in a brand-new play, In Seven Days, in Ontario.

Fight Campus Antisemitism with a New Legal Protection Helpline

ADL, Hillel International, the Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law and Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP have announced the Campus Antisemitism Legal Line (CALL), a free legal protection helpline for students who have experienced antisemitism. With antisemitism on campus reaching all-time highs since Oct. 7, this new resource comes at a critical moment for the Jewish community as incidents of harassment, vandalism and assault have increased by 388 percent over the same period last year.

“No longer will anyone be able to harass Jewish students with impunity, and no longer will a university or school be able to just look the other way,” said ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt.

HOW “CALL” WORKS: Any student, family, faculty or staff member can go to the CALL website or text “CALLhelp” to 51555 to report incidents of antisemitic discrimination, intimidation, harassment, vandalism or violence that may necessitate legal action. Lawyers will assess reports of antisemitic discrimination and hate, conduct in-depth information-gathering interviews and provide pro bono representation for victims who choose to move forward with specific cases. CALL will also provide referrals to social services, mental health counseling services and other relevant support services in their area.

A legal team from ADL, the Brandeis Center, Hillel International and Gibson Dunn will guide overall strategy and coordinate volunteer lawyers from other leading firms including Gibson Dunn and Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP. CALL invites volunteer lawyers from other firms and companies, as well as other organizations, to join in this effort.

Please let the college students in your lives know about the CALL helpline and how it can protect them.
