Join what is certain to be a great discussion of the book Start-Up Nation, by Dan Senor and Saul Singer.  In this modern classic, Dan Senor and Saul Singer look at the reasons behind Israel's emergence as an entrepreneurial powerhouse. Israel produces more startup companies than Japan, China, India, Korea, Canada and the UK. It is a fascinating look at modern Israeli culture that is particularly relevant for those of us in Silicon Valley.

Virtual Tenement Museum Visit & Tour

Thursday // January 12th // 5:00pm // Zoom

Virtual Visit to the Tenement Museum on the Lower East Side Many of us had ancestors who emigrated from Eastern Europe, settling in New York City or another Eastern city, during the wave of Jewish immigration from 1882 to 1920. Some of those ancestors might have lived in what is known as a tenement house. One of our group members very recently toured the museum, and will share that experience with us.

Sefer Club

Sunday // January 15th // 5:00pm // Zoom

You're invited to join us for our next Sefer Club meeting on Zoom on Sunday, January 15th at 5pm. This month we will be reading The Weight of Ink by Rachel Kadish. Set in London of the 1660s and of the early twenty-first century, The Weight of Ink is the interwoven tale of two women of remarkable intellect: Ester Velasquez, an emigrant from Amsterdam who is permitted to scribe for a blind rabbi, just before the plague hits the city; and Helen Watt, an ailing historian with a love of Jewish history.

Sunday Speaker Event: Rabbi Shelly Lewis

Sunday // January 22nd // 9:30am // In person

Please join us for a fascinating presentation by Rabbi Shelly Lewis when he talks about his service as a chaplain in Vietnam, during that war, and his subsequent reconciliation work inspired by his experience. A prolific author and scholar, until retirement, Rabbi Lewis was the long-serving Senior Rabbi at Congregation Kol Emeth in Palo Alto. We are honored to have him join us for this event. The event is open to both members and non-members.
