A Message from the City Manager | |
|
Greetings -
I am proud to share the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) presented the City of Temecula the “Distinguished Budget Presentation Award” again this year for the City's budget. Temecula is the only city in California – and in fact the only city west of Texas - to also receive “Special Recognition - Budget Process” as part of this budget award. Special recognition is earned when all three budget reviewers give the highest possible score (4 of 4) in certain categories, which culminated in the highest possible rating for the category entitled, “Overall as a Policy Document.”
This comes just after Temecula received the award, “Certificate in Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting,” for the City's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report announced in September. According to GFOA, this achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by Temecula and its management.
I’d like to recognize our City's Finance Department, led by Director Jennifer Hennessy, for implementing the vision of our leadership. These awards reflect the City Council's commitment to the highest principles of governmental budgeting and financial reporting. More here.
-Aaron Adams, City Manager

The City is continuously sharing information on E-bike and E-motorcycle safety to provide awareness and prevent future accidents.
Recently, deputies responded to a report of a traffic collision with major injuries near North General Kearny Road and Nicolas Road involving juveniles on an electric motorcycle. You can learn about this accident at: Southwest Sheriff's Station. As we keep those involved in our thoughts and hearts, the City of Temecula strongly recommends that parents of e-bike and e-motorcycle riders have discussions with their teenagers and adolescents about road safety. The City likewise reminds drivers to be extra alert as the popularity of e-bikes and e-motorcycles continues to grow.
Did you know an “e-bike” without pedals is an electrical motorcycle and cannot be legally operated by unlicensed youth on public roads?
To operate an electric motorcycle legally you need the following:
•A valid motorcycle license issued by the DMV. 36% of motorcycle fatalities involve an unlicensed rider.
•A DOT certified motorcycle helmet. 41% of motorcycle fatalities are not wearing a helmet.
•Minimum liability motorcycle insurance.
•Valid registration on the e-motorcycle.

Weed Abatement Program for Fire Prevention
The City of Temecula conducts a comprehensive weed abatement program each year as temperatures start to rise, and vegetation starts to dry out. This program is essential to the City’s proactive fire prevention measures, and programs like the weed abatement program can contribute to maintaining better insurance ratings Citywide.
Property owners throughout the City are required to maintain their property free of hazardous vegetation through the year, but the City conducts a specific proactive program each Spring. You can help maintain our community’s safety by keeping your property free and clear of hazardous vegetation by mowing or cutting hazardous vegetation.
For more program details and information on habitat/erosion areas that should not be disturbed, please visit TemeculaCA.gov/weeds.
