ACTION
ALERT
GSSCC Members:

We are closely following and OPPOSING a 10% property tax rate increase (10-cents per $100 of assessed value) on residents, local businesses, and property owners, being proposed by County Executive Elrich in the FY2024 Operating Budget.

This property tax rate increase will deter investment and make it difficult for business owners and residents to continue to choose Montgomery County as a place to live and do business. It will deter investment in infrastructure and disincentivize the workforce from considering Montgomery County as a viable option.

Stephanie Helsing, GSSCC President & CEO, will testify in opposition to the property tax rate increase at the County Council budget hearing on Tuesday, May 2, at 1:30 p.m.
ACTION NEEDED:

Please pick up the phone and call them or send a letter directly to the County Council at the County council email address, county.council@montgomerycountymd.gov, or to each individually at:

  • Click here to access the VoterVoice portal.
  • Add in this language to the uppermost text field for your letter (personalize as you like).
  • I am writing as a member of the Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce in opposition to the property tax increase proposed by County Executive Marc Elrich. I urge you to reject this proposed budget and any property tax rate increase. As a member of the community and a business leader here, I care deeply about economic development in the County. This property tax rate increase, especially combined with the proposals for recordation tax increase and rent control, will effectively deter investment in our community, make it difficult to bring a workforce here, and make it even more impossible for the next generation of business leaders to afford to root themselves in Montgomery County. If we must prioritize schools and public safety, both of which are important to economic development, you must decrease other areas of the budget. At the same time, and in return for the significant added allocation of resources, we expect clear additional accountability in the school system for the $3 Billion budget funded by our taxpayers.
  • The language in the second text field of the letter is already populated and cannot be changed.
  • Populate your contact information and submit.

Do not delay, take action TODAY! Urge the Council to reject Property Tax Increases!
