Kaspersky Banned In The United States
For several years now we've seen several organization who had been running their own endpoint antivirus program come to us looking to make a switch. In many cases, these were clients looking to get off the Kaspersky product because of it's Russian origins and headquarters.
Well, that trend seems like it will only tick up. In a brand new set of regulations, the U.S. Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security announced that the sale of all Kaspersky products in the US have been banned.
It is said that due to the company's location and ability to be influenced by the Russian government, who is among the top state-sponsors for hacking and ransomware attacks that go on regularly. The ban comes as a result of the product being on so many systems throughout the country that it has been determined a national security risk.
Although it may seem far-fetched, similar bans are already in place in Canada and Germany. The products have been banned on federal networks since 2017.
The official end of sale in the US is July 20. Existing customers will stop receiving updates due to the ban on September 29. It's not a great idea to wait until the last minute, however - the best idea is to look to being the process of ridding networks of the products sooner than later and replacing them with another endpoint security.
If you'd like to look at getting a new endpoint product that offers more protection and isn't at the whim of the Russian government, please feel free to reach out to our offices. We'd be happy to help you understand the processes and assist with getting the work completed for you.
