"Teaching Kids To Fish Is Fun"

Last week teaching kids how to fish was the most fun I've had since the pandemic in March. Hosted by my fishing club—BASF (Bay Area SportFishers), Pete Sasur and myself met Siraj, his wife and two children at the Campbell Perc Ponds in Campbell, CA.
New members of BASF, Siraj and family are originally from Chennai, India where I taught health and agriculture from 1968-70 as a teacher in the Peace Corps.
Chennai, formerly called Madras, is also where I met and married Gloria,
my darling Anglo Indian wife of 52 years. Our beautiful and talented daughter Charm is, of course, mixed--half Indian, half American—the best that East and West has to offer.
So meeting Siraj and family for fishing lessons brought back many fond memories of India which I consider as my second home. India and the
Peace Corps completely changed my life.
Because of my experience as a Peace Corps volunteer in India, I won a full scholarship as a graduate student to study Literacy Journalism at Syracuse University, New York where I graduated with a MA in Mass Communications.
Fast forward--move to California; work in marketing for several high tech companies; launch my own marketing firm Hayes Marketing Communications; launch ActiveOver50 media at age 65 for boomers and seniors; shift to digital publishing last year with a new, monthly, online publication,"The Scoop."
At age 81, still working, playing USTA tennis, running BASF and teaching kids how to fish as a fun way of giving back to a life-long hobby that my father taught me growing up as a youngster in Whitewater, KS.
Not only did Pete and I teach Siraj's son (10) and daughter (7) how to fish,
we also taught Siraj and his wife the basics of fishing.They even caught some bass after the lessons! Fast learners. Good teaching helps, of course!

"Is It Safe To Move Into Assisted Living Communities?"

Unfortunately, Assisted Living Communities have been lumped together with Nursing Homes as unsafe and dangerous places to live during this pandemic with over 59,000 deaths reported in nursing homes nationwide.
