Message from the Mayor

I am always so thankful to live in Tay Township this time of year, the Township really comes alive with unparalleled beauty during the fall season. I hope you’ve all had the chance to get out along the Tay Shore Trail and embrace the Fall colours.

The month of October is also the time the Township joins municipalities across Ontario in celebrating Local Government Week, October 15 to 21, 2023. This year Ms. Bazinet’s Grade 5 class from St. Antoine Daniel Catholic School were invited to the Municipal Office where they heard from myself, Council and Staff about our roles and how working together is key to providing the services, programs and facilities that make Tay Township a vibrant and thriving community.

As the leaves continue to fall our Parks crews begin the process of preparing our Parks for winter; closing park washrooms, removing waste receptables, gardening and collecting leaves are all part of this process. Proper winterization is crucial to prevent damage and ensure that the parks amenities are in good condition when they re-open in the spring. On October 27, Tay Township gathered with our local legion branch members to raise the Poppy Flag to help kick of the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Campaign. The campaign runs from October 27 to November 11. Funds donated across the country during the National Poppy Campaign support veterans and their families, and funds donated locally stay local.

I encourage all residents to pause on the 11^th hour of the 11^th day of the 11^th month, to remember those who paid the ultimate price to protect our freedoms and to support the Royal Canadian Legion and its programs by purchasing and wearing a poppy as a symbol of remembrance. Local Government Week

Local Government Week is an opportunity for people of all ages to increase their civic awareness, and help everyone gain an understanding of municipal government and its impact on everyday lives.

To help kick off the week Grade 5 students from St. Antoine Daniel Catholic School were invited to the Municipal Office where they heard from the Mayor, Council and Staff about their roles and how working together is key to providing the services, programs and facilities that make Tay Township a vibrant and thriving community.

On behalf of the Mayor, Council and Staff thank you to Ms. Bazinet’s Grade 5 class for celebrating the key role that local governments play in helping to define the character, priorities, amenities and physical make-up of Ontario’s diverse communities.

Tay Community Rink Opens

November 13, 2023

The Tay Community Rink will open on Monday November 13, 2023 for public and private bookings.

The online booking portal at tay.ca/rinks will open on November 1, 2023 at 8:30 a.m. for those interested in booking private ice rentals, or to view the schedule for open free public skating and shinny.

You can also book your spot by visiting our Municipal Office during regular business hours Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m to 4:30 p.m. For more information please visit tay.ca/rinks or call us at 705-534-7248 x230.

Preparing Parks for Winter

Each Fall, in the weeks following the Thanksgiving long weekend, Township Parks crews begin the process of preparing our Parks for winter.

Proper winterization is crucial to prevent damage and ensure that the park amenities are in good condition when they re-open in the spring. Some of the key steps involved include closing park washrooms, removing waste receptacles, garden and collecting leaves. For more details on these steps check out this notice.

Proper winterization not only preserves the park facilities but also contributes to the overall cleanliness and safety of the parks, enhancing our community's experience when they return in the spring.

Please do not park your vehicle on or within 3.05 metres (10 feet) of roads between 3:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.

Old Fort Overhead Bridge

Replacement Update

The County of Simcoe is continuing to work on replacing the Old Fort Road overhead bridge in Tay Township.

Work started in May and will continue into Spring 2024. Old Fort Road has been closed to traffic but will reopen temporarily in January during the winter shutdown.

County of Simcoe Battery Collection

Reminder #TayTownship Don't throw away your dead batteries! Save them for curbside battery collection.

November 6 to 10, 2023.

Place your sealed battery bag on top of your cart on regular collection day.

Tay Township Public Library Update

November always feels like the calm before the holiday storm, but not this year! We have so much going on with visiting authors for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), the return of our famous Taste The World spice program, two guest led programs, the Waubaushene Santa Claus parade, and of course our Festive Fundraiser.

Join us Sunday, November 26^th from 10 AM - 3 PM, at Oakwood Community Centre in Victora Harbour for our Festive Fundraiser. It is our seasonal craft show planned and hosted by the Marjorie Young Volunteer Association (MYVA) and Library staff in support of Tay Township Public Library. Join us for a warm drink, kids activity, check some names off your shopping list, or treat yourself! We do a have a few vendor spots left! If you are interested in becoming a vendor, the registration fee is $30 plus a donation to the prize table, all proceeds go to the MYVA group to support Library programs and special collections. For more information on becoming a vendor and to register please pop into a branch to pick up a copy of the registration form or send us an email!

Seniors Advisory Committee Update

Sainte-Marie Among the Hurons
