This month started with Mayor Walker proclaiming February 1 to 29 as Black History Month in Tay Township, celebrating the many achievements and contributions of Black Canadians who have and continue to do so much to make Canada the culturally diverse nation it is today. The Simcoe County Museum also hosted a virtual lecture series, and our local library provided a wonderful selection of educational resources to celebrate and honour this important part of our nation’s history.
The Township also celebrated Pink Shirt Day on February 28! Our staff proudly sported their pink shirts and gathered for a photo to show our solidarity and support. Did you notice any displays of unity, inclusivity, or random acts of kindness? It’s through these gestures that we truly highlight the exceptional spirit and togetherness that defines our community.
As we approach the end of winter, I encourage you to gather your family and friends to make the most of the remaining time at the Tay Community Rink. It’s a wonderful way to create lasting memories and enjoy the last bit of winter fun. A reminder that the Tay Community Rink will close for the season on March 19, 2024.
Looking ahead to brighter days, we continue to seek corporate sponsors for the inaugural Mayor’s Charity Golf Tournament - Tee off with Tay, scheduled for August 16th at Midland Golf and Country Club. If you are interested in sponsoring this event, details and sponsorship forms are available at www.tay.ca/golf. Proceeds from this tournament will support youth enrichment programs at Tay Shores Elementary School, St. Antoine Daniel Elementary School, Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care as well as the Georgian Bay General Hospital MRI Machine.
Thank you all for your continued involvement in making Tay Township a vibrant and thriving community.
Until next time, Mayor Ted Walker twalker@tay.ca.
