HWCLI connects Long Islanders with SNAP benefits by assisting with applications and enrollment and providing necessary education and outreach through community events at the grassroots level. SNAP provides nutrition assistance to eligible individuals and families. Parker Jewish Institute Forget Me Not Support Group

Parker Jewish Institute is launching a "Forget Me Not Support Group", designed to provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals who have lost a loved one and are looking for a community of understanding individuals to share their experiences with. Led by experienced counselors, the support group meets regularly to offer participants a chance to connect with others who are going through a similar grieving process. They offer a range of activities and resources to help members cope with their loss, including group discussions, expressive arts therapies, and mindfulness exercises. If you or someone you know could benefit from our Forget Me Not Hospice Support Group, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

Dental Financial Assistance for Veterans

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) in partnership with NYU Dentistry’s Veterans Oral Care Access Resource (VOCARE) is helping Veterans with blood cancer gain access to dental care. Any Veteran, regardless of dental benefit class, who requires dental procedures to begin lifesaving therapy for a blood cancer, or as a consequence of therapy for a blood cancer, will be eligible for financial assistance to cover the costs of dental services. 


Care will be provided at the NYU Dentistry Oral Health Center for People with Disabilities. Although treatment takes place in New York City, the program is available to all Veterans as long at they reside in the U.S., or a U.S. territory, and can travel to New York City. All expenses for the required dental care will be covered, as long as funding is available. Veterans can receive services more than once. Covered expenses include, but are not limited to, extractions, root canals, jaw surgery, dentures, cavity fillings, and gum disease.

Free OASAS-Sponsored EBP Trainings

OASAS is offering State Opioid Response (SOR) Grant-Funded training for staff and peers working in OASAS-certified programs on Long Island, at no charge under the OASAS SOR grant. All courses provide CASAC, social work, MHC, and MFT continuing education hours. To be eligible, you must work on Long Island or in Brooklyn in an OASAS-certified program. Trainings have been scheduled for September, with more to come soon. Suffolk County Department of Health Scholarships for Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) Training

The Suffolk County Department of Health has established full scholarships for Suffolk County residents who wish to obtain CASAC certification at OTI, out of the first phase of the Opioid Settlement funds in Suffolk County. Scholarships will cover the full cost of all coursework for recipients, valued at $5,950 per person. In addition, 40 students will receive paid internships at Outreach, with each receiving a stipend of $1,500.


The Suffolk County Workforce Development Scholarships (SCWDS) scholarships will be targeted at individuals seeking to pursue their CASAC certification and who have demonstrated an interest and passion for helping people in the Suffolk County community. These individuals might be those who work in Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) and Office of Mental Health (OMH) programs, human and social service agencies, or at health facilities. They may have been involved in volunteer work in their communities and/or religious, civic, or cultural institutions. They could be individuals in

recovery who provide peer-to-peer support to others.

File Your Taxes in 2024 for Free with Bethpage Federal Credit Union VITA Program

The Bethpage Federal Credit Union's VITA program is now accepting applications for both in- person and virtual services! This program provides free basic tax return preparation for low-to-moderate income families and individuals. This also includes taxpayers with disabilities, limited English proficiency, and elderly taxpayers.


In-person and virtual services are available to taxpayers through appointments only. Dates, times, and locations will vary, and taxpayers must complete the Bethpage VITA Appointment application to be scheduled for an appointment.


Limited In-Person appointments will be available at the following areas:

·   HPS Parent Resource Center, Hempstead

Tax filing season is here, and for most taxpayers the process of getting ready can be confusing, frustrating and expensive. Join BFCU for Facilitated Self Assistance (FSA) Interactive Lab Sessions where they will provide free virtual assistance with filing your income tax return from the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. Join Alzheimer's Disease Resource Center for an Education Conference on March 14th, 2024 from 9AM-4:30PM at Stonybrook University's Student Activities Center with Keynote Speaker Sandeep Jauhar, MD. An interactive panel of family caregivers will discuss the challenges and rewards of caregiving, what they have learned, and what they wish they knew at the beginning. Affordable Connectivity Program

The Affordable Connectivity Program is an FCC program that helps connect families and households struggling to afford internet service. For more information, click here.

This program is limited to one monthly service discount and one device discount per household.

The Affordable Connectivity Program provides:

  • Up to $30/month discount for broadband service
  • Up to $75/month discount for households on qualifying Tribal lands; and
  • A one-time discount of up to $100 for a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet purchased through a participating provider if the household contributes more than $10 but less than $50 toward the purchase price.

988 Crisis Number

People experiencing a mental health crisis have a new way to reach out for help in the U.S., they can simply call or text the numbers 9-8-8. This system includes someone to call, someone to come and somewhere to go when experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis. 988 is more than a number, it is an immediate connection to highly trained, local crisis counselors to provide emotional support and assistance for behavioral health crisis and suicide prevention and provides connections to services in the community for support and recovery.

Nassau Community College's Annual Day of Service

Nassau Community College's Annual Day of Service will be held on Tuesday, March 26th from 10:30AM to 1PM.  The Applied Learning Committee is holding an in-person Volunteer Fair to bring agencies with volunteer/internship opportunities together with our students and faculty who are looking for such opportunities. This face-to-face event will be held in NCCC's CCB multipurpose room. There will be tables set up for agencies around the perimeter of the room, and invite to students in to speak to you. Light refreshments will be served.
