Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL-8)

Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi was elected in November 2016. His district includes the west and northwest suburbs of Chicago

Raja is the child of immigrants and was reared in Peoria, Illinois.  He was a valedictorian of his high school class.  He graduated summa cum laude from Princeton University with a degree in mechanical engineering and a certificate from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public Policy.  He then graduated with honors from Harvard Law School and clerked for a federal judge before practicing law in Chicago.

Raja was appointed by Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan as a Special Assistant Attorney General. He was also a  member of the Illinois Housing Development Authority and Illinois Deputy Treasurer.

After his time in the Illinois Treasurer's Office, Raja returned to the private sector, serving as president of a research-oriented small businesses company.

He visited Israel for the first time in 2009 and was impressed with its "vibrant, diverse democracy that is vital to America's strategic interests." He is a strong supporter of Israel believing that the U.S. "must do everything (it) can to safeguard Israel's security while at the same time advancing the peace process."

Raja and his wife, Priya, a physician, live in Schaumburg with their two sons and baby daughter.

Joint Action Committee for Political Affairs (JACPAC) is the thinking person's PAC. JACPAC contributes to candidates for the United States Congress who support a strong United States-Israel relationship, reproductive choice, and separation of religion and state.  In addition to providing financial support for US Senate and House campaigns, JACPAC maintains an ongoing dialogue with those we help elect. The combination of campaign donations and advocacy yields billions of dollars in aid to Israel plus federal support for local Jewish institutions and programs.  JACPAC promotes social policies consistent with the priorities of the American Jewish community and enlists its participation in advocacy with elected officials.
