St. Joe Hwy Watermain & Pathway Project Kicks Off

The St. Joe Hwy Watermain and Pathway Project has commenced. A dedicated project webpage has been created to help keep the public informed, on the page you will find general project information, project timeline, as well as project progress.

The St. Joe Hwy Watermain and Pathway Project encompasses relocating the water main out of the roadway along St. Joe Hwy. as well as adding a 10 ft wide multiuse pathway from Creyts Road to Waverly Road. (See project map above)

Preliminary ground staking for project staging has begun along with Tree Trimming and intermittent lane closures on St. Joe Hwy.

The project will start on the west side beginning at Creyts Road, working east toward Waverly Road. There will be full sidewalk closures and intermittent lane closures on St. Joe Highway throughout the project. Project information will be communicated via email alerts, as well as on the Township website and social media pages. You may sign up for email alerts at www.deltami.gov/StJoeAlerts. Regular updates will be posted on the project page at www.deltami.gov/stjoewmproject.

It is the Township’s goal to be communicative and responsive throughout the duration of this project. In addition to the website, we will utilize social media and email alerts to share information. We highly encourage you to sign up for email alerts to ensure you have the most up-to-date information as the project progresses. Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we work to improve our water and non-motorized facilities here in Delta Township.

Nixon Road Resurfacing and Bikelane Project Begins June 3

On June 3, 2024, the Eaton County Road Commission will begin milling and resurfacing as well as adding bike lanes on Nixon Rd. between St. Joe Hwy. and Mt. Hope Hwy.

Throughout the project, the road will be fully closed to through traffic. Access will be maintained to all driveways along the project, except for delays when work is occurring immediately at a driveway. There will be times when the road is fully closed at a specific location and access will only be possible from only one direction.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of August. We appreciate your patience as we work to improve this mile of Nixon Road.

Delta Township Receives $150,000 Grant Through the Eaton County Parks Community Grant Program

Delta Township was one of three communities that were awarded grant funding through the Eaton County Parks Community Grant Program. This highly competitive program had 12 applications from nine different communities across Eaton County. This is the second round of grants awarded by this program, established in 2023, thanks to a county-wide parks millage that passed in 2022.

Delta was granted $150,000 toward an estimated $400,000 new ADA-compliant playground facility at Sharp Park. The project will replace two 25-year-old playground facilities (pictured above) with one, larger centrally located, fully accessible playground including surrounding surfaces.

This project is part of Delta's commitment to being a fully inclusive and diverse community through offering recreational opportunities that can be enjoyed by all of our residents.

Lawn Maintenance Reminder

This is a friendly reminder that residents are required to keep lawn length to a height no greater than eight inches in length on average across a property.

Properties not in compliance will be mowed by the Township or its agent at a cost to the property owner. The minimum charge will be in effect for all properties mowed by the Township. Properties requiring more than one hour of mowing time will be charged the minimum rate plus the additional rate per 20-minute increment outlined below.

The Noxious Weeds Ordinance (Article III) is in effect from May 1 through October 31 each year. Please note that Delta Township does not recognize "No Mow May" and will be enforcing the Noxious Weed Ordinance beginning May 1.

The above schedule depicts the minimum charge in effect for all properties each time the property is mowed by the Township or its agent.

The Township works hard to be proactive in its enforcement, however, residents can report violations here.

* It is assumed each property will be a minimum of one hour for violation mowing. An additional $30 will be added for each 20-minute increment over one hour for violation mowing.

In addition to keeping your lawn length in check, we also want to remind residents when mowing to be sure that clippings do not end up in the roadway or drains. Under Article II Section 14-23 (10)

Exciting news for Eaton County! Earlier this month EATRAN launched their new Grand Ledge Connector Route, as part of their commitment to enhancing regional public transit. Summer Sewer Max Credit

Delta Township grants automatic sewer credits to all residential customers on their April-September bills. The process referred to as "Summer Sewer Max", ensures summer sewer bills will not increase for seasonal water usages, such as pool filling and lawn irrigation.

A "sewer maximum" is established by calculating the highest average of the two winter quarters (Oct-Dec & Jan-Mar). This average is the maximum a customer will be billed for sewer on their April – September bills. Customers will be charged for full water usage during these billing cycles, but the sewer portion of the bill will not exceed the "sewer maximum". Therefore, customers will avoid paying sewer charges for excess water usage during the summer months. In addition, this policy makes secondary irrigation meters unnecessary.

This credit is automatic and does not require you to contact us. However, if you have any questions regarding the calculation of the sewer credit, please contact the Delta Township Accounting Department 517-323-8510.
