Happy Summer!

Hello friends!

A warm hello from BES HQ in Massachusetts!

We’re captivated by the ever-changing HR landscape that keeps us asking as many questions as we’re answering. Companies continue to explore AI, evolve recruitment strategies and retention ideas, and the quest to perfect employee experience is never-ending.

This month we've shared our (admittedly biased!) perspectives on the benefits of a boutique search firm, and the enormous upside small firms can provide to helping secure big hires.

And few things are more rewarding than some team bonding outside of the office. Our BES group gathered along the beaches in Hull last month for some collaborative days strategizing about how to best help the clients and candidates with whom we speak.

Sincerely,

Alice Benson

Partner Small, Hire Big

The Value of Retained Boutique Executive Search Firms

The right leadership candidates are out there, but most aren’t shifting through job postings, directly applying to roles, and some aren’t looking at all.

Three things we know:

1.) Hiring the right business leadership is one of the key drivers of success.

2.) It’s not easy to do.

3.) It’s best done with a trusted, savvy, and experienced search partner.

A retained boutique search firm has extensive knowledge and experience within specific industries or functions (like HR), enabling them to develop expertise and a thorough understanding of each sector's unique nuances. Well-versed in the latest trends, a boutique search partner will provide clients with valuable insights and a competitive edge in the talent market.

AI intertwined with HR

A thrilling conversation about the future

On June 12 we were delighted to co-host an in-person event with Gallagher in their beautiful new offices.

Panelists Stephen Idowu (right) Head of Strategic Innovations in AI and ML at Liberty Mutual, and Kimberly Rose (center), Head of People Experience, Analytics, and Digital Innovation at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, discussed the role of AI in the workplace and its implications for HR leaders. The panel was moderated by our own Bob McCarthy.

Kim and Stephen shared insights and practical recommendations for leveraging rapidly growing AI technologies. Using real-world use cases and learnings, participants received actionable ways to tackle AI. Some of these explorations included strategies for re-skilling, positioning AI as an opportunity vs a threat, and ensuring accessibility and equity with technological advancements.

It was an inspiring and informative evening, and thank you to all of you who attended.

Helping Humans Flourish

Some reflections from BioNJ

Last month, Senior Recruiters Laura Gruber and Suzanne Solleder took front row seats at BioNJ’s 11thAnnual HR Conference at Kean University. The one-day conference is part of a series of events hosted by BioNJ that focus on professionals working in life sciences.

This year’s theme was “Flourishing at Work: Tools, Tips, and Trends,” and the conference featured panels and discussions on the future of AI in HR, DEI, employment law, and compensation and workforce trends. In a recent blog we caught up with Laura and Suzanne to hear some of their takeaways.

A Final Word: Fun

We recently completed our annual off-site outing in Hull, Massachusetts, and spent three days building our teamwork, improving our collaborative processes, and strategizing about how to best help the clients and candidates with whom we speak. It was an informative, fun, and insightful series of meetings and sessions. We have a great group here at Benson Search!
