City of Cleburne Observes MLK Day

Please note that City of Cleburne administrative buildings and offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 16 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Day.

Sanitation routes will run as usual. The Transfer Station, Cleburne Public Library and Booker T. Washington Recreation Center will be closed on that day as well.

MLK Day is also designated as National Day of Service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. If possible, lend your time to volunteer and help those around you to make this City an even greater place to live, work and play.

SMD 2 Council Seat to be Filled After Election

In an effort to maintain transparency and avoid bias, Cleburne City Council unanimously made the decision to keep the Single-Member District 2 (SMD 2) seat vacant until the public can elect the person in May.

Mayor Scott Cain thanked those who showed interest and noted that other individuals also expressed interest in running for the council seat in May. Therefore, he said it would be best to not show bias to one of the candidates by appointing someone in the interim. Read more here.

Vulture Abatement to Begin By Prairie Avenue

You may hear some loud noises (similar to fireworks) in the 400-500 block of Prairie Avenue beginning Jan. 13 because the Cleburne Animal Shelter is carrying out vulture abatement in the area.

The non-lethal abatement will be happening every night for the next seven to 10 days from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Be sure your pets are secured indoors because this type of noise tends to scare animals. The vultures are exhibiting normal roosting behavior, but they can pose a health hazard and are a nuisance.

PET OF THE WEEK

It's Loo's time to shine! Loo is very loving and extremely playful. She loves to be petted, and she knows what she wants. And what she wants… is a home with no dogs.

Although she doesn't seem to like dogs and she may need time to adjust to other cats, she absolutely adores humans. If you're interested in this 1-year-old domestic shorthair mix, get details on how to adopt her here.
