A Focus on Safety, Community and Fun

The Cleburne Police Department is encouraging neighborhoods around the city to throw crime a “going away” party.

National Night Out (NNO) is an annual community-building campaign and celebration, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW), that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.

The next National Night Out will be held Tuesday, Oct. 4 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Cleburne public safety officers will be visiting neighborhoods around the city to participate in various fun events. Have you and your neighbors registered for National Night Out yet? The deadline to register is Friday, Sept. 30.

A Fresher Look at Our Facilities

Locker room renovations are now complete at the Splash Station. The new flooring has been installed, which looks great with the new paint and replaced fixtures. See pictures of the upgrades below.

Over at the Booker T. Washington Recreation Center, the new flooring in the gymnasium and multipurpose room are being installed. Those areas will be open again to the public by the early part of October.

Showcasing Disaster Response Volunteers

When disaster strikes, many people don't realize the different volunteer groups that come together to provide help and relief. To help inform the community about those resources, the Cleburne Fire Department will be hosting its first ever Disaster Response Volunteer Expo.

The expo will occur on Thursday, Oct. 13 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Cleburne Conference Center, located at 501 W. Henderson Street. If you have services or products that you  could donate in an emergency, contact the Fire Department at 817-645-0964.

A Special Thanks to Our Techies

You usually don’t notice them until something messes up.

In honor of National IT Professionals Day, which was held this year on Sept. 20, we wanted to send a special ‘thank you’ to the members of Cleburne’s Information Technology Department for working hard behind the scenes to keep all of our systems and networks up and running. We appreciate you all!

We'll Be Dancing in the Street

The Layland Museum of History and Cleburne Railroad Museum will be hosting a free street festival on Saturday, Oct. 15 that people of all ages can enjoy.

The festival will feature historic pastimes, games, food trucks, dancing and more! To stay up to date with the latest details about the event, visit the event’s calendar page

Some Fun (Safely) Gazing at the Sun

Momma always said not to look directly at the sun… and you shouldn’t. However, the Cleburne Public Library will host a safe way for people to look at the only star in our solar system (fun fact alert).

This Saturday, Sept. 24, the library will be having a Sun Fun event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring your family and friends to see the surface of the sun through a solar telescope.

PET OF THE WEEK

Don’t let the resting cat face fool you. This is a kind kitty who stays camera ready and would love to meet you.

Meet Percy. She’s a 5-month-old domestic medium hair mix.

Percy is spayed and has been at the Cleburne Animal Shelter since June. They take great care of her, but she’s ready to find a loving, permanent home. Interested? Learn how to adopt her here
