Free Popsicles at the Park this Month

Did you know July is Parks and Recreation Month? To celebrate, the Cleburne Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting three Parks and Popsicles events this month.

At the event, we’ll be giving out free popsicles. While you’re cooling off with the frozen treat, you’ll be able to hang out in the park, play lawn games and get to know our Parks and Rec crew a bit better.

Save the date for these Parks and Popsicles events:

  • Wednesday, July 12 from 10 a.m. to noon at P.D. Lacewell Park (700 Granbury St.)
  • Thursday, July 20 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Carver Park (600 Park St.)
  • Saturday, July 29 from 10 a.m. to noon at Hulen Park (301 W. Westhill Dr.)

A Quick Swimming Safety Reminder

As you’re taking a dip in some water this summer, remember to prioritize safety! The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has a list of ways to prevent drowning, including learning the basics of swimming, supervising children and wearing a life jacket.

Just in case you didn't know, Lake Pat Cleburne has two community life jacket stations. The life jackets are free to use, but please remember to put them back afterward so others can use them as well. View more about swimming safety tips in this video by the Cleburne Fire Department.

Railroaders Head to the All-Star Game

The Cleburne Railroaders baseball team is representing at the national level. Congratulations to Jose Sermo, Zach Nehrir, Mark Karaviotis, Hill Alexander and Joe Corbett for being selected to the American Association’s East Division All-Star Team! The first four named will be starting.

The All-Star game will take place July 18 at 6:35 p.m. in Franklin, Wisconsin. More details about the game are available here.

Explore Our Library Databases

Miss Humblebee’s Academy includes hundreds of guided lessons for a variety of subjects like language, literacy, math, science, music, social-emotional learning, fitness and more. View more details here. A list of the library’s online databases can be found here.

First Thursday Game Night Postponed for a Week

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the First Thursday Game Night that was scheduled for July 6 had to be postponed. No worries, though. The fun will continue on Thursday, July 13 at 6 p.m.

Head on over to the Cleburne Railroad Museum on that day for the featured game of bingo. There will also be a selection of other games suitable for all ages. There’s no cost to participate, so bring your crew for some fun!

PET OF THE WEEK

Whoever says a black cat brings bad luck hasn't met Shadow yet. This cutie is a 2-year-old Bombay mix who will make the perfect addition to your family.

She's sweet, playful and affectionate. Plus, she's already spayed. Find out how you can adopt her here.

Discounted Adoption Fees

More animals are coming into our shelter in these summer months. To encourage people to adopt them, we’re reducing the adoption fee to $25.

If you’d like to give one of our wonderful cats or dogs a new home, take a look at our adoptable pets and fill out an application to get started.
