Election Day is May 4

If you missed early voting, you still have a chance to vote on Election Day, which is on Saturday, May 4. Four Cleburne City Council seats are up for election.


For the mayoral position, incumbent Scott Cain is running against James Stuer.     

Incumbent Derek Weathers is running for Single-Member District 1, and Oliver Ray Cozby is listed for the Single-Member District 3 seat. Both candidates are running unopposed. The Single-Member District 3 seat has an unexpired term and was left vacant after Mayor Pro Tem Mike Mann announced he would not seek re-election.


For the Single-Member District 4 seat, incumbent John Warren is running against Francisco "Frank" Aguero.

NIGHTLY LANE CLOSURES: City crews will be doing pavement markings on BUS 67, from Kouns Street to the merger on the west side of Cleburne, and on Highway 174, from Willingham Street to FM 1718. The work will begin on Sunday, May 5 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. It will take approximately seven working nights to complete. Please prepare for nightly lane closures and be cautious near the work zone.

Come Out to the Cinco de Mayo Celebration


It’ll be a fiesta this weekend! The Cleburne Chamber of Commerce and the Cleburne Parks and Recreation Department will host a Cinco de Mayo celebration on Sunday, May 5 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Cleburne Conference Center parking lot.

Take a Homeless Dog on a Hike This Weekend

Get your steps in while helping an adorable shelter dog. The Cleburne Animal Shelter has partnered with Cleburne State Park to host a walk for homeless dogs on Saturday, May 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the nature park.


It'll be a chance to give the dogs some time outside, provide positive experiences with people, and hopefully find their forever home. Donations for the shelter will be accepted in lieu of park entrance fees. See more event details here.

Enrollment Now Open for Teen Cadets


Know a teen interested in law enforcement? Sign them up for Cleburne Police Department’s annual summer Teen Police Academy. The free academy will be held June 3-7 at the Booker T. Washington Recreation Center.


Youth ages 14-16 will learn the basic operations of a police department and explore career options in criminal justice. The deadline to apply is May 8, so act fast. View details here.

Know a Teen Who Wants to Volunteer?


The Cleburne Public Library is recruiting teenage volunteers—volunteens—to help out during the summer. There will be an orientation meeting for interested youth on Saturday, May 18 at 1:30 p.m. in the library.

Gotta Catch 'Em All at the Library on May 4

Star Wars Day is on May 4, and what better way to celebrate than with Pokemon? (Just go with it.) The Cleburne Public Library will host a Pokemon Club on Saturday, May 4 from 10:30 a.m. to noon.


All ages are welcome for the discussions, activities and card game play. If you don’t know how to play, you can still come and learn. Registration is required, so contact library@cleburne.net or 817-645-0934 to reserve your spot.

Stop By the Museum for National Train Day


May 11 is National Train Day. Make sure to stop by the Cleburne Railroad Museum on May 10 or May 11 during normal operating hours to see all the different types of trains. It’s free and open to all ages.


If you want to participate in the Mini World Express, the cost is $15 for a diorama kit. Decorate it to your heart's content and turn it in by May 9 to see your creation as part of the museum’s National Train Day display.

Well hello, Dolly! Isn't she just precious? Dolly is a 2-year-old who can't wait to find her new forever home. She's been at the Cleburne Animal Shelter since last month and has already stolen the hearts of the staff members.

Low-Cost Vaccinations


The Texas Coalition for Animal Protection (TCAP) will offer low-cost vaccines, microchips, heartworm testing, flea/tick control and more on Saturday, May 25 from 10 a.m. to noon at Cleburne Animal Services on 2375 Service Dr.


No appointment is necessary, but make sure to review the requirements.
