Communication really is the key to just about everythingI That’s my opinion.  Communication and partnership. It’s particularly important when it comes to communities.
For the second time during my tenure as Chamber director I’ve had the opportunity to attend another quarterly WV Region 1 & 2 Oil and Gas Roundtable Group meeting. This quarter’s Roundtable was held this past Thursday and attended by representatives from Blue Racer Midstream, ECM Energy, MPLX, Litman Excavating, Antero, Marathon Petroleum and Williams. Agency representatives included the Office of Emergency Management from Tyler, Doddridge, Wetzel, Marshall and Green (PA) counties. State representation was from the West Virginia Emergency Management Division.

The Roundtable began with a review of the 2022 Local Hero’s & Partnership Expo held on June 17th and 18th Paden City. The event honored 69 First Responders/First Receivers; 40 Federal, State and Local Agencies; 20 Corporate and Community Organizations. Honorees received Expo certificates & challenge coins. In addition to the recognitions, $4500 was donated to the following community groups:

·        Boy Scout Troops 175 & 1750/Cub Scout Pack 175
·        Arise Ministries for Homeless Ministries and Help
·        Several Food pantries for Hygiene Packages
·        Tyler Consolidated Band Boosters as they are going to represent WV at the Peach Bowl
·        Food care packages the days of the event…and so much more!

*A $10,000.00 trailer was donated by Antero Resources to Tyler County EMA to help their missions.

There was an estimate of 400 guests who walked through the event and approximately 80 presenters.

The family friendly event hosted 210 local children who enjoyed two days of free swimming at the local pool, nearly meeting a record attendance. They also didn’t skimp on the food! They served approximately 400 hamburgers, 450 hotdogs, 450 bags of chips and 1,000 soft-drinks and water.

All of these wonderful happenings at the Expo could not have happened without communication and partnership!

What the Roundtable allows is the opportunity for industry and community to engage in real and candid discussion on a variety of issues that touch both. This high level of communication allows for not only the sharing of information, but also for the resolution of problems before and after they occur.

During the most recent Roundtable, the two guest speakers were Kevin Clark, On-Scene Coordinator for the Environmental Protection Agency Region III and Fred McMullen, Warning Coordination Meteorologist for the National Weather Service. Each shared powerful examples of how these two federal agencies are available locally to support our communities in times of need. With constant and ongoing communication, they serve to protect all of us and the land that we all hold so dear.

Communication and partnership with the WV Region 1 & 2 Oil & Gas Roundtable Group continues to be an important and vital part of our community that will hopefully remain and grow for years to come.
