The entity that is the forest absorbs us.
Below, the roots of the trees reach out to each other.
Mies of mycelium tendrils carry nutrients from old to younger trees.
Carry warnings of drought or insects.
The forest senses and adjusts.
Arms of oaks stretch farther up, and below the dappled sunlight like stained glass on the pavement.
Canada geese hiss and protect their young crossing in front of us.
Mom in front, then the kids, and then Dad.
The teenage kids are about to lose their own, grow feathers, and fly.
New lives, old lives in the forest
The complex wisdom of life, adjusting, flowing, always creating,
The complex wisdom of the forest, adjusting, flowing, always creating,
The river has swelled this morning; it rained last night.
Large fish surface and chase flies.
A doe watches quietly, hidden in trees.
The old snags are alive with insects, and the flickas feast.
The forest shelters, feeds, and protects all within.
The forest reaches into us, returns us to wonder, to joy.
It brings us into communion with it, reminding us of how minor and temporary our thoughts are.
It reminds us to be respectful, that we are part of this web of life, and that to destroy it is to destroy ourselves.
Have a good week ... Kim

My book Travels Into Discomfort is available on Amazon.
It is a travel adventure in its prose and a journey to the heart in its poetry.
Travels Into Discomfort
Oubaitori
Oubaitori embodies the spirit of not comparing oneself. The word itself is a beautiful metaphor. Oubaitori is usually written with four kanji characters: 桜梅桃李. Each individual character represents a different kind of blossom: cherry, apricot, peach and plum. All are different, and all are remarkable in their own way, without needing comparisons. Just like trees bloom differently, so too do humans.

Women’s History
Women, We Should Know
Julia Morgan was an American architect and engineer. She designed more than 700 buildings in California during a long and prolific career. She is best known for her work on Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California.
Although Morgan was highly respected as an architect, not much is known about her personal life. She was never married and had no known romantic relationships.
