Today is a Take Action NOW day!
Two ways you can take action today:
1. Urge your House Members to End the Shutdown and Protect Vulnerable People & Families
Join us and our friends at Coalition for Human Needs and the Food Research and Action Center in a national call-in day to end the shut-down by passing "a clean and comprehensive" Continuing Resolution (CR) for FY2014. The piecemeal approach of passing funding bills one program at a time is not an acceptable way to fund the federal government. Annually funded nutrition programs like WIC, CSFP, and TEFAP must be funded along with all other government programs that provide a safety net for all people - especially low-income people.
Message: As your constituent, I want you to act NOW to end the government shutdown and prevent the economic catastrophe of a government default, with no strings attached. Please vote to restore funding for all of the services that families count on and to protect Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and food stamps.
Call-In Number: 1-888-659-9562 Special thanks to AFSCME for making this toll-free number available.
2.
Urge Senator Casey to Sign onto Farm Bill Letter Rejecting SNAP Cuts
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) is circulating a letter to Farm Bill Conferees in support of full funding for SNAP in the Farm Bill. Call Senator Casey's DC office at (202) 224-6324 or send an email.
Read the letter here. To sign on, the Senator's office should contact Lauren Au (lauren_au@gillibrand.senate.gov or 202-224-3461) by Wednesday, October 16th.
Thank you for your support in the fight against hunger!
