As we usher in the new year, I want to express my sincere thanks for your trust in our team. I’m proud of the hardworking individuals who deliver your water, sewer, parks, and recreation services. Their commitment to building a healthy mountain community through public service is truly commendable.

Reflecting on the historic and challenging winter of 2023, our team demonstrated unwavering dedication to maintaining critical services, even when navigating extreme conditions. Their passion and hard work serve as the foundation of our continued success.  It is a privilege to serve as General Manager alongside a team who are passionate about public service and to witness their dedication to the health and safety of our community every day.

I am also grateful for the steady leadership and governance of our Board of Directors. We are fortunate to have a Board that understands the community’s needs and has the foresight to ensure a future of reliable water supply for both household use and fire suppression, environmentally sound sewer services, safe and clean park facilities and engaging recreation programs. Their commitment to service is evident in long-term financial planning and strategic prioritization.

Our team’s commitment to excellence in public service was noted outside the Basin in 2023 and we are proud of receiving the following statewide recognition for our outstanding service and contributions to the community.

  • Transparency Certificate of Excellence (Special District Leadership Foundation) for our efforts to promote transparency and good governance.
  • Exceptional Public Outreach & Advocacy Award (California Special Districts Association) for our ongoing initiative and action to protect our community from wildfire by improving water infrastructure for firefighting.
  • Excellence in Financial Reporting Award (Government Finance Officers Association) for our financial stewardship and transparency in governmental accounting and financial reporting.
  • ACWA Outreach Award – Region 3 (Association of California Water Agencies) for our proactive work in monitoring and responding to important statewide legislative initiatives that will impact our water customers.

Looking ahead to 2024, our goal is to serve with a continued emphasis on people, safety, quality, and collaboration. This commitment is reflected in our Board approved 2024 Capital Budget of over $20 million for important projects that protect our environment and make a positive difference in our community. These projects include:

  • West Lake Tahoe Regional Water Treatment Plant
  • North Shore Multi-Use Trail reconstruction
  • Smart water meter installation
  • Sewer Pump Station storage improvements
  • Tahoe Cedars and Madden Creek Water System reconstruction

As we embark on this new year, we want to strengthen our connection with you. Your thoughts, questions, and feedback matter to us. We invite you to actively engage with us in shaping the future of the Tahoe City Public Utility District. If you have a suggestion or question about our services or ongoing projects, feel free to reach out at info@tcpud.org or 530-583-3796.  We believe that together we achieve more. Let’s work together to ensure a vibrant and sustainable future for our mountain community.

Yours in Service,

Sean Barclay

2023 California Special Districts Association Special Districts Tour

TCPUD, together with the North Tahoe Public Utility District and North Tahoe Fire Protection District, was featured in this year’s California Special Districts Association Virtual Tour, attended by members and staff of the California Legislature and Congressional Delegation.

The virtual tour featured a video highlighting our work in North Lake Tahoe in partnership with the Tahoe Water for Fire Suppression Partnership to secure state and federal funding to replace and upgrade our municipal water systems with water infrastructure needed to improve fire suppression. Together, we are working to protect our communities from catastrophic wildfires.

To learn more about this critical water infrastructure for fire suppression work and to watch the video, visit the Tahoe Water for Fire website at www.tahoewaterforfire.org.
