Moving Moments at the TTC

Photo of a wheel-trans bus

When torrential downpours caused flooding and the loss of power at a Mississauga long-term care home, our Wheel-Trans team stepped up!

Four Wheel-Trans vehicles were dispatched just before 9 p.m. and spent several hours relocating approximately 100 residents who utilize mobility devices to another facility where they would be warm, dry and with electricity. The size of our Wheel-Trans vehicles allowed operators to safely move multiple residents at a time.

“Wheel-Trans is often called upon by many agencies – including those in other neighbouring cities – to assist during emergencies,” said Mohammed Shaikh, Divisional Manager, Operations, Wheel-Trans. “We always step up to the plate to assist.”

Thanks to all our TTC staff for the support. Also supporting the relocation efforts were Toronto Paramedic Services and Peel Paramedic Services, along with City of Toronto Emergency Management Coordinators.

Bruce Macgregor, TTC's current Deputy CEO, has been appointed Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the end of the business day on Friday, August 30, 2024.
