The Francis Kobty Hospitality Scholarship was awarded to Mateo Serrano at the Arlington CVB’s Annual Meeting & Breakfast on November 9. Mateo Serrano is an Arlington ISD Bowie High School graduate and a TCC Culinary Arts student. The Kobty family, owners of the Prince Lebanese Grill, created the scholarship in memory of Francis Kobty, founder of the Prince Lebanese Grill.

The scholarship was created through the Travel & Sports Legacy Foundation and the Tarrant County College Foundation.

The full scholarship covers tuition, books, and support materials and the recipient will be mentored by Aziz Kobty. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a TCC Culinary Arts student, and a graduate of an Arlington ISD or a Mansfield ISD high school.

Industry Organizations Partnering to Host Career Field Trips for Arlington ISD High School Students

TSLF is partnering with the Texas Hotel & Lodging Association, Hotel Association of Tarrant County, and Arlington ISD to host field trips for Arlington ISD 1,700 high school students in Spring 2023. The event, which will include presentations from industry representatives, will cover career and job opportunities in tourism and sports management. The event will be held at a venue in The District (formerly the Entertainment District).

Arlington ISD Dan Dipert Hospitality Services Students Intern at Crowne Plaza Hotel

For five years Arlington full-service hotels have hosted the Arlington ISD Dan Dipert Hospitality Services student internship program. Students learn about hotel management by interning with the hotel managers at various departments in Arlington hotels. The Crowne Plaza Arlington hosted students for three weeks in the fall. The students learned about front desk operations, food preparation, accounting, and other areas of the hotel. The internship program is hands-on training that is supplemented by the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute’s training.

Tarrant County College Hosts Culinary Arts & Hospitality Business Meeting for Industry Partners

Tarrant County College hosted a Culinary Arts & Hospitality Business Meeting recently on the Southeast Campus. The event brought together college officials and industry professionals to discuss opportunities for collaboration, programs that benefit TCC students, and an update on campus development.  College officials provided an update on the new facilities that will house the Culinary Arts & Hospitality Management Programs. The new facility is scheduled to open in 2024.

Several industry representatives attended the event, and presentations were made by TCC Culinary Arts & Hospitality Management staff, TSLF, and the Everyday Entrepreneur Venture Fund. The next meeting will be held in the Spring.

TSLF PROGRAM UPDATES

TSLF Awards Three Scholarships to TCC Students

The TSLF awards scholarships to TCC Hospitality Management & Culinary Arts students annually. Three scholarships were awarded to TCC students this year. The scholarships were sponsored by Texas Live! and were awarded to Brittany Hudson, Mia Russ, and Terrance Hill, an AISD Bowie High School graduate and former Dan Dipert CTC student.

With support from TSLF partners, TSLF will award up to $17,000 in scholarship and mentoring assistance to this year's scholarship recipients during the course of their studies. Scholarships are awarded based on eligibility guidelines.

Scholarship recipients will participate in the TSLF Milestones Mentoring program this school year. The one-year program offers the students the opportunity to meet in an individual and group setting with life coaches. Scholarship recipients are assigned an industry mentor during their second year in the program.
