NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN COMING TO I-264 EAST NEWTOWN RD EXITS
Ramp 15B closing for demolition and replacement

NORFOLK – Motorists exiting I-264 east to Newtown Road will encounter new traffic patterns at the interchange beginning the night of July 15.

Beginning at 9 p.m. July 15, Exit 15A to Newtown Road south and Greenwich Road will close until as late as 5 a.m. for pavement and striping work. A detour will direct traffic to Exit 15B/Newtown Road north, west on Center Drive and south on Kempsville Road.

This work will add two left-turn lanes at the bottom of Ramp 15A. When the ramp reopens, motorists exiting at 15A will be able to turn left onto northbound Newtown Road. They will also be able to turn right onto southbound Newtown Road or continue straight to Greenwich Road as before.

Following the completion of the 15A ramp work, Exit 15B to Newtown Road north will close so crews can demolish the existing off-ramp and begin improvements to replace it.

While Exit 15B is closed for work, signs will direct motorists to use Exit 15A to access Newtown Road.

This new traffic pattern will be in place until Exit 15B reopens in 2019. When it reopens, the new off-ramp from Exit 15B will feature an improved geometry making it easier to merge onto Newtown Road, a new stormwater drainage system and other improvements. The work is part of Phase II of the I-64/I-264 Interchange Improvements. View www.i64i264improvements.org for more detail on the I-64/264 projects.
