SOCIAL EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING

Show Perseverance

We all experience challenges in our lives and have moments when we feel like we can’t do it or that we want to give up. We need to develop tools which help us work through those challenges and grow instead of giving up. This month's focus for our elementary students is practicing Perseverance through flexible thinking.

You can carry this theme into the discussions you have at home during time with your family.

We have all demonstrated Perseverance in our lives. Many of us have seen people practice Perseverance in ways that have inspired us. Stories are powerful tools for connecting as a family. Protect time this week to share stories about Perseverance with each other (you can use the story prompts below to get started). At the end of the conversation, think of 1 way you can practice Perseverance this week.

Story Prompts:

● A time I (or someone else) showed Perseverance was _____.

● An act of Perseverance that changed/challenged me was _____.

STAY HEALTHY

Heart Healthy Habits to Share with your Loved Ones

Building healthy habits is important for everyone. The sooner you start teaching them to your children, the easier it will be for them to develop the habits they need to gain the sweet benefits of a long and healthy life.

❤️Eat a Balanced Diet:

Encourage a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins.

Limit the intake of processed foods, sugary snacks & drinks, and high-fat items.

❤️Stay Hydrated:

Drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially during physical activities.

❤️Get Outside and Play:

Aim for at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity most days of the week.

Include activities they enjoy, such as biking, swimming, or playing sports.

❤️Limit Screen Time:

Encourage a healthy balance between screen time and outdoor activities.

❤️Practice Mindful Eating:

Teach children to pay attention to their hunger and fullness cues, promoting a healthier relationship with food.

❤️Healthy Snacking:

Provide nutritious snacks like fruits, vegetables, yogurt, and nuts instead of sugary or high-fat options.

❤️Promote Family Meals:

Make family meals a priority to encourage healthy eating habits and foster positive communication. A healthy heart isn’t referring only to the beating organ in your chest. Recognizing the signs and symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress is important to making good choices that will keep your heart healthy. Having healthy conversations at meal time can promote a heatlhy mind set.

❤️Get A Good Night's Sleep:

Ensure children get an adequate amount of sleep, as sleep is crucial for overall health, including heart health.

❤️Teach Stress Management:

Help children develop healthy coping mechanisms for stress, such as deep breathing, mindfulness, or engaging in relaxing activities.

❤️Lead by Example:

Children are more likely to adopt healthy habits if they see adults modeling them. Be a positive role model by practicing these habits yourself.

❤️Be Grateful!:

Practicing gratuity, according to researchers will have a lasting positive impact on overall health including lowered blood pressure & improved immune health.

100 Days Brighter

Students across the district found ways to celebrate 100 Days of growing, learning, and having fun together. As we begin to make our way through the second semester of school, we continue to see progress of the hard work and committment that is put forth each day. We are so very proud of our students for giving it their all, appreciative of the families who support them, and thankful for the educators who work hard to #Elevate their impact in the classroom each day.

Make attendance a priority. Being present in class will help to ensure that your child is receiving the high quality instruction in which they deserve.
