News and Updates from Turning Point of Lehigh Valley

Happy Pride Month!

Turning Point is proud to serve ALL survivors of domestic and intimate partner abuse.

Domestic and intimate partner abuse within the LGBTQ+ community is unique compared to other communities. Abusive partners utilize tactics of abuse that are specific to LGBTQ+ people and relationships including:

  • Controlling and/or questioning the victim’s gender identity or gender expression.
  • Questioning or not believing the victim’s sexual orientation.
  • Calling their partner names that are homophobic, biphobic, and transphobic like “freak” or telling them that they’re not “gay enough” or “trans enough.”
  • Pressuring a victim to come out or threatening to out the victim to family, doctors, friends, employers, etc.
  • Withholding hormones like testosterone injections.
  • Forcing the victim to speak to priests and other faith leaders to “cure” them of their homosexuality/bisexuality/transness, etc.

Celebrating Our Remarkable Moms

"I am like a flower that is raised with love by you. You help me grow big and strong."

In honor of Mother's Day, we held a heartwarming celebration at our Safe House to recognize the incredible moms in our program. While every day is an opportunity for us to recognize their achievements and progress, Mother's Day holds a special place in our hearts as we highlight their resiliency, strength, and courage.

Our Child and Teen Advocate, Geraldine, along with the children in our program, organized a wonderful craft activity. Each child had the chance to design a beautiful card and write a heartfelt message to show their love and appreciation for their moms.

We are incredibly grateful to have received generous donations from the community including donations from Bethlehem Women's Club, First Presbyterian Church of Emmaus, and Verizon. These donations allowed us to make this day even more special for our moms.

Donor Spotlight: Verizon

Helping to Create a Safer and Brighter Future For All

We are delighted to shine a spotlight on our generous partner, Verizon, who recently reached out to us with a heartwarming gesture for Mother's Day. Verizon showed their incredible support by creating beautiful Mother's Day baskets for the moms at our Safe House.

These thoughtfully curated baskets brought joy and warmth to our moms, reminding them that they are cherished and appreciated. We extend our deepest gratitude to Verizon for their commitment to making a positive impact in our community and for their dedication to honoring and celebrating the resilience of these remarkable individuals.

Their dedication to our cause and their belief in the importance of standing by survivors of domestic and intimate partner abuse is truly commendable. We are honored to have Verizon as a valued partner, and we look forward to continuing our collaborative efforts in creating a safer and brighter future for all!
