OUR RECENT EVENTS

Digital LA - African American Digital Leaders. Keep up to date and proficient with new digital tools, and follow your passion, said speakers at our Digital LA - African-American Digital Leaders Summit at WeWork in Hollywood. This is LA's first panel highlighting successful African-American digital leaders, during Black History Month.

Speakers Bettina Sherick of Fox VP Digital Marketing International, Beverly Jackson of Yahoo! Social Media Director, and Sheila Marmon, CEO founder of Mirror Digital, shared their career stories, advice and tips to succeed in digital.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Storytelling is key to social. Understand the story you're trying to tell, listen to your audiences to find what resonates, and then tell the story across multiple digital and social media platforms that are specific to the strength of the platform.

- In board rooms and meetings, be the expert on and use the newest digital tools, which you'll find can help advance your career. Use Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Vine, YouTube, etc. so you're not just talking about it, you use it.

- Trends: microvideo social platforms like 6-second Vine and 15-second Instagram are increasing use, as young demos spend more time on mobile. Fox and other studios are starting to promote their films with 6-second Vine and 15-second Instagram trailers to reach mobile.

- Traditional marketing is about casting a wide net via TV and newspaper. Today's social media marketing focuses on "micronets"- reaching out to influencers with followings, and online communities who'd be interested in your content or product. Celebrity endorsements are OK, but can be inauthentic and expensive.

- Follow your passion in digital. If you like photos, events, writing, acting, producing etc. there are digital platforms and tools you can delve into to be the expert and perfect your craft.

Thanks to WeWork for hosting, and great tweet notes from the audience:

Digital LA - Vine Stars panel.  Five top Viners reaching a combined 10M followers shared their experiences and insights on developing their brand and careers in 6-second videos at our Digital LA - Vine Stars panel at WeWork Hollywood.

The Viner influencers discussed how they got started on Vine, get ideas for content, and collab with other Viners. Most of the panelists found out about Vine from a friend, and started to post funny comedy videos. The short 6-second format is perfect for a situational humor joke, comment on daily life, or physical humor. Pranks used to be popular but are declining. Stop-motion animation is used, but comedy Vines build bigger audiences, and are more shared.

Viners said that once they hit 500,000 to 1M followers, they started to get calls from brands. Viners on our panel have worked big brands including Pepsi, Wendy's and the NFL, startups like apps Hot or Not or the Hunt, and movie studios who invite Viners to movie premieres and other events to reach a broader audience.

"We are our own TV networks,' said Brittany Furlan, the #3 most-followed on Vine with 5M followers.

See our PICS and more summary highlights.

Thanks to WeWork for hosting, and thanks to our panelists! Follow them!

- Brittany Furlan is the top female Viner and #3 overall. With her comedic Vines, she has developed a loyal following, and worked with Wendy's, Trident, and other brands. @BrittanyFurlan. 5M followers

- Ry Doon. Ry is a Boston based comedian known for his outrageous Vine videos featuring segments like "unnecessary swearing." @RyDoon. 1.9M followers

- Klarity. With his unique sense of humor, Klarity collabs with other Viners on a regular basis and has worked with brands such as Snippit, Oral B and the new Buffy the Vampire Slayer. @Klarity_ 1M followers
