TMG Inducts the 68th Class of

"I am a Lean Leader; My Team Plays to Win!" Leaders

OJune 10th & 11th, TMG, Inc. and the Association for Manufacturing Excellence presented their 69th Building a Dream Team, Heartbeat Leaders First Workshop at the Newport News Shipbuilding's Apprentice School.  This 2 day workshop taught attendees the theory of a high performance team, shared lessons learned and best practices, and generated a rich learning environment to help any team improve their business performance - Heartbeat Leaders First!  Lean Best Practice Companies have in common a maniacal focus on their "Heartbeat" Leaders whose performance is the leading indicator of the core business metrics:  team engagement, cost, schedule, quality, and safety.  Each organization calls them different names like Foreman, Team Leaders, Planners, Sales Representatives, and Procurement Specialist, but they serve the same key roles regardless of location - they get the job done!

"Heartbeat Leaders' daily performance are driving our business performance every day and we had 32 leaders from 11 businesses who spent 2 days bench marking Newport News Shipbuilding and developing their own plans on how to better identify, train, prepare and develop Leaders with Courage to take care of our people and get the job done." commented Joe Barto, Founder and President of TMG, Inc. and workshop facilitator.  "I am so energized by these sessions when I see these leaders connect the dots and take ownership of their own teams. Great leaders are what make America's economy great and we had a bunch of them in the room.  At the end they all declared, "I am a Lean Leader.  My Team Plays to Win", as Rob Hogan, the NNS VP for Manufacturing, presented their Lean Leader Badges.  What a powerful statement?"

Representatives from all variety of businesses and industries attended this workshop to learn, share, and grow as leaders within their own organizations and to empower their teammates to be engaged and build the trust that is so essential to good leadership.  With best practice presentations from Rob Hogan, VP of Manufacturing for Newport News Shipbuilding, and Everett Jordan, Director of Education for the Apprentice School, as well as a presentation from General Kevin Bergner, US Army Retired, and a tour of both the Newport News Shipyard and the Apprentice School, this event was a great opportunity for attendees to gain valuable insights into industry leading Leadership concepts.  TMG teaches that Heartbeat Leaders play the most critical role within any organization and that it is incumbent upon the organization to provide their teams with Leaders who know how to lead.
