What You’ll Do:

  • Continually seek out and create opportunities to place stories in media
  • Contribute to media strategies to drive rich earned coverage
  • Stay ahead of trends by identifying culturally relevant trends, across mainstream and Latino audiences, and create story opportunities from real-time news events
  • Develop compelling, media-focused content, ranging from press releases and messaging documents; have capability to translate some materials, like simple messaging or emails,to Spanish (note – full translation capabilities not a requirement)
  • Conduct research on relevant media contacts and track competitor announcements across mainstream and Latino verticals
  • Build strong relationships with national, regional and trade mainstream/Latino media as well influencers, including writing compelling pitches, in English and Spanish, to journalists
  • Work daily with media across multiple channels, including email, social media and phone
  • Recommend and track measurement KPIs for earned media and influencer efforts
  • Conduct media monitoring
  • Participate in and present at client meetings
  • Collaborate with teams across multiple disciplines and successfully manage complex, fast-moving and unexpected communications challenges
  • Interact with clients to present strategic recommendations addressing challenges and opportunities, as well as in “think on your feet” situations

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in PR or journalism, with 1-2 years of related experience – B2B, Ecommerce, or tech clients a plus!
  • Proven experience working with media and a strong portfolio of story placements across mainstream and Latino media
  • Superior writing and editing skills that can communicate creatively and in an engaging manner; capability to write in Spanish is preferred (note – full translation capabilities not a requirement)
  • Understanding of earned media strategy and experience contributing to media plans
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and superior client service skills

Salary range: $50,000 – $70,000

Duties

  • Build and maintain a local network of collaborative partnerships: economic development practitioners in Federal, state, regional and local government, chambers of commerce, business and trade associations, financial institutions, educational institutions and civic/community organizations.
  • Represent the SBA at a variety of public functions through outreach/presentations/trainings in order to educate the small business, lender and contracting community about SBA programs and services, and other small business-relevant topics.
