Here at TJ, the mission of our Athletic Program is to create better students, better athletes and better people. We would like to recognize the athletes from our fall programs that best exemplify what it means to be a student athlete. Spartans gear up for this year's round of Homecoming festivities.
On September 19, Thomas Jefferson High School will host the annual tradition of the Homecoming Dance. Homecoming is something many students anticipate, as the perfect way to ring in the new school year. Leading up to the dance is spirit week, a special week in which students dress in fun costumes that would otherwise not be allowed. Every day of spirit week has a different theme: Monday is hippie day, Tuesday is Safari Day, Wednesday is Character Day, Thursday is Western Day, and Friday is TJ spirit day, as always.

|
DPS' first Superintendent Parent Forum of the year is on Thursday, Sept. 24 at the National Western Complex. Open to all members of our community, join us to learn about our new Vision of a DPS Classroom and Vision of a DPS Graduate (outlined in Steps to Success, our Academic Strategic Plan).

Stepping Stone to Success
|
An early loss turns into gained confidence for the Lady Spartans.
On Friday September 4, the Lady Spartans' loss to the Valor Christian Eagles, 21-7, showed the fighting spirit of our TJ Softball players. The Eagles were last year's state champs in the 4A class. Before this matchup, no team had scored on them the whole season. This changed when the Lady Spartans not only scored on them, but took the lead in the second inning. In the first two innings the two teams were going back and forth, when TJ took the 6-3 lead. Valor was not expecting TJ to give them a run for their money, after having dominated last season.

You know what we really love? I mean besides science and writing and math and robotics and history and books and music and students and teachers and nerds of all kinds?
We really love companies that give back to their community. It's one of the reasons we're so proud to be a part of the
Food For Thought program, and why our relationships with organizations like the
Colorado Avalanche and
Barnes & Noble mean so much to us. Lots and lots of companies make money, but not very many companies reinvest that money into their communities. The ones that do are really special and are worth supporting.
Well, go ahead and add
Whole Foods to the list. Now through April 12, shoppers at five Denver-area Whole Foods stores have an opportunity to donate their ten-cent bag credit (given to each customer who brings a shopping bag from home) to The Big Brain Club! The participating stores are:

What is Challenge Day?
- It is a one day (seven hour), action-packed, interactive program held in the gym at TJ; students, teachers, administrators, parents and other adult volunteers participate in a safe environment.
- Students, teachers, and parents own up to past behavior, apologize to each other, and make a pledge to "change their behavior.
- Students and adults participate equally and connect on a very personal level.
- Through these personal connections, students are engaged and empowered, and are inspired to be successful.
- Students' personal power and self esteem are elevated.
- Dangerous peer pressure is transformed into positive peer support.
- Teasing, violence and all forms of oppression are recognized and eliminated.
- The aftermath of the school climate is remarkably noticeable.

Fall college visits are open to juniors and seniors ONLY.
