PART 6

THE BENEFITS – LESSON 4

The fourth benefit on my list is when the miracle working power becomes a reality in your life. Jesus expects this of us as we see in John 14:12 where He said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also. And greater works than these shall he do…”

What works did Jesus do? He healed the sick and cured all manner of diseases. He restored the limbs of the crippled, gave sight to blind eyes, and raised the dead to life. He cast out demons. He calmed great storms and commanded the weather.

The last part of John 14:12 says, “…because I go unto my Father.” Since he was to ascend back to heaven’s throne, he needed us to continue the works of His Father here on earth. We are his ambassadors. We carry the message of hope and redemption. We continue His works.

How about you? Have you done miracles through the name of Jesus? Are his words in John 14:12 being manifested through you? If so, then very good. If not, then by prayer and fasting, Jesus’ miracle working power could flow through you. In the next two verses (John 14:13-14) Jesus assures us that if we ask these things to be done in his name, then these things will be done. In verse 15 Jesus says that if we truly love him, then we will follow this commandment, and any and all commandments he has given. His greatest commandment is to love God, our fellowman, and ourselves. So, a test of love for Jesus is to do what he did while here on earth. Preach the gospel, take care of the poor, and afflicted, and do miracles through his name.

VANITY

Solomon started out with great wisdom until he allowed pagan wives to influence him. There are tremendous lessons in the Book of Ecclesiastes. The word “vanity” is used thirty-seven times in this book. In chapter 2 verse 14 it says, “I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit.” 

He had everything anyone could desire in the natural and giftings from God in the spiritual, but it did not bring him satisfaction. In chapter 2:17 it says, “Therefore I have hated life; because the work that is wrought under the sun is grievous unto me: for all is vanity and vexation of spirit.”

You can have it all, but still be vexed in spirit. It means to be frustrated, annoyed and worried.

When man seeks after things of the world, it is in vain because they do not last. As the poem by Charles T. Studd says, “Only one life, ‘twill soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last.”

We are to seek after the things that last and are not temporary. All we do will be tested as by fire, and only those things done for God will not be burned. 

In the closing statement of Ecclesiastes, Solomon says in chapter 12:13-14, “₁₃ Let us hear the conclusion of the matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. ₁₄ For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.” It appears as he wrote this that he realized the truth of what really was important in life and that was to serve God. Let us be mindful of it too.
