Palm Sunday - The Sunday of the Passion

On Palm Sunday, we recall Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem and Jesus’ Passion on the cross. It is also known, therefore, as the Sunday of the Passion and is the first day of Holy Week. Red is the liturgical color for the day.

The observance of Palm Sunday in Jerusalem was witnessed by the pilgrim Egeria in about 381-384. During this observance, there was a procession of people down the Mount of Olives into Jerusalem. The people waved branches of palms or olive trees as they walked. They sang psalms, and shouted the antiphon, “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” Thus, our worship traditions this coming Sunday unite us with Christians in the early centuries of the Church.

PARISH ACTIVITIES

An Invitation to Holy Week from Fr. Phil

Dear friends, it is a joy to prepare for my first Holy Week as your priest at St. Anne. As we begin our journey together with Jesus on Palm Sunday, I hope you will consider taking part in the fullness of this week, especially the three days known as the Paschal Triduum (Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter)--these services form ONE continuous liturgy that is the most important of the Christian year and which reveals the fullness of God's saving and healing work in Christ.

In particular, I encourage you to join us for the Great Vigil of Easter on Saturday, March 30th at 8PM--there is no other service quite like it, and it is filled with beauty and wonder. And, of course, I look forward to celebrating with you on Easter morning, when we rejoice and marvel at the love of the One who died for us and rose again.

To the Cross and Beyond,

Phil+

Contact Janice Urbanik, the Vestry Finance Liaison, with any questions at jlurbanik@gmail.com.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH & SOCIAL JUSTICE

New! Donation Stations

We’ve moved all our donation bins to one central spot: the north wall of the Community Room. Please use these bins for your donations for our ongoing collections for Matthew 25: Ministries (pill bottles), Meadow Ridge Food Pantry (non-perishable food items), Trinity Church Free Pantry (toiletries), and Dove House (books for resale) along with any seasonal drives. We appreciate your support!

New! Save the Date - HUGS

We will be helping Hamilton Urban Gardens prepare for the growing season. Plan to join us Saturday, May 18 from 10 am to noon with an optional group lunch afterwards. Email Elizabeth Creehan at ecreehan@ymail.com with questions or for an “early-bird” sign-up. Location: 545 S. Front St. Hamilton OH 45011.

New! Dove House

Some years ago we donated clothes and household items for residents of the Dove House, a safe refuge for abused women and their children. At their request, we have shited to collecting books, which are then sold by a pastor in Cincinnati, with the proceeds going to Dove House. Any kind of book, hardback, paperback, old books, etc. is accepted. All the books left over from Junktique are also donated. Monetary donations to Dove House are welcome also.  Collection boxes for your spare books are in the Community Room by the “stable door” storage area. Every little bit helps! - Frankie Croisant

New! Outreach Allocation Committee

Currently, there are an estimated 16,000 young people, ages 0-18, within the Ohio foster care system. The demands on the resources and emotional health of foster families can be overwhelming. Hope’s Closet, a foster care support organization in West Chester, works to build a community of support and provides resources to local foster families. It is because of their significant impact on the local foster community that the Outreach Allocation Committee has chosen Hope’s Closet as the recipient of this year’s Easter plate offering. Please give prayerful consideration for this opportunity to support Hope’s Closet and their belief that childhood should be hopeful, regardless of circumstance.

New! 1st Quarter Donations/Outreach Allocations

The Outreach Allocation Committee provided donations to the following programs in Q1:

  • St. Anne Appalachian Service Project – help support van rental for members serving on the mission
  • EDGE Teen Center – support the yoga program for after-school activities
  • Lunches of Love – purchase fresh produce, milk, and eggs for residents at Meadow Ridge

To nominate an organization for a donation, see the Outreach page on the St. Anne website, or contact Melissa Hard at mhard07@gmail.com.

Next Splash & Dash Ministry Date

Wednesday, March 27, is the date for our next Laundry Ministry event at Splash & Dash. We will be on-site from 5-7 pm. We've split this into two shifts, 5-6 pm and 6-7 pm. If you are interested in working one of these shifts, please reach out to Cheryl McKettrick - at mckettrick.cm@gmail.com. Don't worry! There will be at least one experienced member of the Outreach Service Commission on each shift.

Meadow Ridge Apartments

Meadow Ridge Pantry contributions are low this month. Please consider providing beans, tomato sauce, soup, and Macaroni and cheese. The need is great within this community, and all donations are greatly appreciated. The bin for donations is now located in the community room. Contact Berni Murray, dbpoiry@gmail.comwith questions.

Trinity Church Free Pantry

This pantry is for those who are un-homed and/or the low-income residents of Hamilton and the surrounding area. As part of this ministry, we have been asked to continue collecting toiletries such as shampoo, soap, disposable razors, toothpaste, and toothbrushes. These items are very much in need at this time. The donation box is located in the community room. For more information, contact Dennis Murray, at dgmurray57@gmail.com.
