Summer is right around the corner, but secretly we're pretending it has already arrived.
Two great opportunities come to a close TOMORROW! First, Photoworks' Silent Auction featuring a wide range of enticing items. Bidding ranges from $5 - $800 to raise money for Photoworks' programming. Second, proposals for Partnership Galleries exhibitions to be held in the Popcorn Gallery, Stone Tower Gallery, and Park View Gallery during the 2025 calendar year are due. Learn more and submit today!
This Friday, join us for the June Art Walk! Our Partnership Galleries will be hosting opening receptions for three new, exciting exhibitions, and our resident art organizations will host open studios and exhibitions of their own. RSVPs are preferred, not required.
Also Friday evening, Washington Conservatory of Music will host pianist Chencheng Yao at 7:30pm as part of their Casual Concerts series. Take a break from perusing the art to take in some classical compositions!
On Sunday, June 9, Art Glass Center artists will discuss their works on view in the Popcorn Gallery during a 1:00pm Artist Talk.

Our fun and affordable social dances - styles range from folk to blues to contra to waltz to swing to tango and beyond - are open to the public with no prior experience or partner required.
New dancers are always welcome, and a pre-dance, introductory lesson is included with admission. Most dances feature live music by renowned local and national bands.

Swing Dance
Saturday, June 8
8:00pm - 11:30pm | Spanish Ballroom
“Swing” is the music, and “swing dancing” is the family of dances that developed to the new musical style that began with the Harlem Renaissance in the 1920s. Taking elements of jazz, tap, the Breakaway, the Charleston and the new syncopated rhythms of the era, a new dance style emerged—Lindy Hop. One hundred years later, swing dancing with its many variations is still going strong.
Join Gottaswing for a Battle of the Bands: Rock-A-Sonics vs. Natty Beaux! A beginner swing lesson from 8:00pm - 9:00pm will precede the social dance from 9:00pm - 11:30pm. All levels of dancers are welcome, no partner required.

Brazilian Zouk

Brazilian Zouk is a partner social dance developed in Brazil. Among its distinctive characteristics you will see a mix of playful footwork, body movements, and Brazilian Zouk's unique head movements. Today, almost every major city around the globe has a Brazilian Zouk scene of passionate, welcoming dancers.
Join District Zouk for a Zouk lesson from 8:00pm - 9:30pm, followed by a social dance from 9:30pm - 1:00am. All levels of dancers are welcome, no partner required.

Just Getting Started: Foundation Painting
June 13 - August 8 | Thursdays 1:30pm - 4:00pm | Stone Tower Studio
Just Getting Started: Foundation Painting will guide you through the basics of translating your visual world to the canvas while learning the fundamentals of painting. Our class sizes are small to ensure you have all the assistance you need while learning composition, paint application, and color theory. Students will gain knowledge from working from the figure, still life and landscape.

International Folk Dancing for All
June 19 - July 24 | Wednesdays 7:00pm - 8:00pm | Bumper Car Pavilion
Learn the basics of Balkan folk dancing with a variety of rhythms and styles. No experience needed. Lots of repetition and review in a relaxed setting. Classes will include dances from Greece, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Albania, Armenia, Turkey, Romania, and dances of the Roma. Tuition includes free admission to the Glen Echo Folk Dancers immediately following.

Amazing Alphabet Art Frolic Camp (Ages 5-9)
June 24 - 28 | 9:00am - 3:00pm | Arcade Classroom 201
Artful adventures in calligraphy for the budding artist plus nature frolics throughout the Park. Create impressive works of fantasy and folk arts combining letterforms and iconic motifs. 2-D and 3-D multimedia creations depict life through eyes of a child and letterforms spanning millennia and the globe. Students take home their manuscripts in a handmade portfolio bag with a quill pen.

Intermediate/Advanced Teen Darkroom Camp (Ages 12-18)
June 24 - 28 | 9:00am - 3:00pm | Photoworks Studio
Stay true to your artistic vision and use the darkroom and alternative printing techniques to take your photographs from concepts into handmade prints. This is a great workshop for teens who have taken a darkroom photography class and want to make a print for a portfolio or an exhibition. We will study photographers and printers from the past and present for inspiration. Receive guidance and encouragement while making cohesive handmade prints you will take home at the end of the camp.
