Homecoming Week In Full Swing
|
Homecoming week 2023 kicked off Monday with a pep rally. Students made s’mores, the royal court was announced, and the Soar mascot revealed his new look. The king and queen will be crowned at Saturday’s football game.
On Tuesday, the campus was filled with blue and gold, as students and staff were clad in their favorite Reinhardt attire. The women’s volleyball team shut out Brenau, winning 3-0, followed by Midnight Madness where the men’s and women’s basketball players showed off their dunking skills.
Wednesday the campus turned pink, with Barbie fans dressing up and competing in a photo contest. That evening, the community turned out for Trunk or Treat at the Waleska United Methodist Church.

Reinhardt’s Men’s Basketball team honored the university’s president, Dr. Mark A. Roberts, with special recognition and appreciation for his leadership, service, support, and for being a vital member of the team.
The framed jersey with the number 21 on it has a dual meaning. Dr. Roberts is the 21st president at Reinhardt, and it is the number worn by player Jawdat (“Jaws”) Rezeq for the past four years. Rezeq says he is honored to have presented the jersey on behalf of the team, “We appreciate everything Dr. Roberts does for us. His mentorship and leadership are one of a kind. He has played a significant role in shaping me to be the person I am today. From my first-year student professor to the president, he is still the same Dr. Roberts who pours lessons into my life and students' lives here on campus. Together we fly!”
Dr. Roberts is grateful for this gesture of gratitude, “I've seen Jaws grow into a real professional, and I am so very honored by the RU basketball team's gift. This is a true practice of one of our strategic goals: To create a ‘culture of recognition’ on campus among and between a variety of groups.”

Lifelong Learning and Serving
|
A non-traditional Reinhardt student is exemplifying learning, serving, and leading. Olivia Gunn is in the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program and plans to graduate next summer. She also works in the Center for Student Success (CSS) and writes for the newspaper in Rome, Georgia.
Gunn’s objective is to teach at the collegiate level. She’s previously taught K-12 as an assistant and a substitute and comes from a family of educators. “I have the teaching bug and I love it. I especially enjoy working with students who are nervous about writing.”
At the CSS, Gunn works part-time as the Relations Coordinator as well as a tutor. She loves helping people and wants students to know that the CSS is on campus to help with projects and essays, provide tutoring for any class, or even give guidance to get organized.
