On this 15th day of August, 2024, I hereby and heretofore, officially, with the fanciest language I can muster, call for the Democratic Party, the grassroots, and every single Democratic campaign to change our paradigm. We must conduct partisan voter registration – all year, every year – up to the registration deadline in each state. Efforts to get out the vote (GOTV) can and should happen simultaneously, but can never take the place of voter registration.

That is far from how things are now. In fact, this would represent a tectonic shift in the world of progressive activism. And this is exactly how we need to shake things up if we want to keep winning in bigger and bigger ways.

Why? Because the most direct way to grow our party is by registering more Democrats. 

It sounds so obvious, right? Yet partisan voter registration is almost completely ignored, as 99% of electoral activism consists of mobilizing existing voters. But how could we possibly think all we have to do is turn out the voters we already have, and leave it to people themselves to register as Democrats? Especially when the number of unregistered people far exceeds the number of registered voters in either party! Exact figures are constantly changing, but there are over 80 million unregistered, eligible voters. If roughly half of them align with us, and we could register them, that would be enough new Democrats for us to win every election from now till forever.

Republicans understand this – that's why they try so hard to purge Democrats from the voter rolls! And that's why our efforts must overwhelm their attempts to cheat.

Does it cost too much to pursue? Field Team 6 will partner with your organization or campaign for free, and set up free text banks, phone banks, and postcarding.

Do you not have the volunteers? Field Team 6 has almost 25,000 – and we’re here to help!

Do you not have the know-how? Field Team 6 does! And we have a Dream Team of trainers in everything we do, from texting, phone banks, postcarding, in-person voter drives, social media storming, and more!

Do you not have the time to set up events? Field Team 6 has already set up events in every swing state! Just join us!

So no more talk of shutting down partisan voter registration because “it’s time to pivot to getting out the vote.” We must do both! It’s no exaggeration to say the fate of democracy depends on it.

We have a mission: send ONE MILLION texts a week! Texting makes a huge difference. In the 2022 cycle, 30% of the folks we texted registered as Democrats or independents – exactly the people we need to make sure we keep the White House and Senate and take back the House.
